What are the laws in your area about a bow in the truck?

I had a little run in with a Deputy sheriff today. It started over my inspection sticker and then he saw my bow in the back seat of the truck and wanted to see my arrows for what kind of point I had on them. I had just been out moving some cameras and looking at trails.. At my huntingland I have a little range set up for shooting and I had just finished shooting some mechanicle BH's to find out what shot best with my set-up. Yep there was a Grim Reapor one 2 of them and two had the NAP Scorpions. Never was I in the woods, camoed out, or stalking bluebirds.
The deputy accused me of poaching and then went on to say that I had a loaded weapon (because they were in the quiver!). Im in a rural area, but thats frickin rediculous if there were any merit to accuse me of this.
Anyone have arrows in there quivers, according to Barney Fife, its carrying a weapon.
Any stories?

I have asked this question a few times and got different answers.
According to Ranger Bob (DNR Bastard) all bows in illinois must be taken down if recurve or in a case or the string dissabled (tie wrap). I crossed a road at a park in Metropolis and he confronted me saying I can't transport it on roads without the string dissabled, rediculous to say the least and no arrow knocked.
I had cops follow me into my hunting spot thinking I robbed a house (Long story). They saw the bow in the back seat without a case or string dissabled and they asked me if I was hunting, I said yes and they finished frisking me and looked in the truck with my approval to see I had nothing to hide.
Several of my friends say they must be cased or it is like transporting a gun, again I don't think all cops know or care in my area from the above experience. Now I tie wrap the strings just to be safe or keep it in a case, I hunt close to home and hat putting in and out of the dang hard case since the stabilizer has to be removed.

I've never understood the laws in Minnesota either. Back about 10 years ago while bear hunting in northern Minnesota I had my recurve in the back of my pickup un cased. There is no rear slide window in my truck to get at my bow. The game warden was at our camp when we got back. He ticketed me for my bow being un cased in back of my truck but at the time no written law in the regs suggested that it was illegal. I should of fought it but its a 5 hour drive to the town from where I live.
I'm thinking you should fight these guys on your ticket!! Thats crazy sounding.

sometimes law emforcement just works against the good guys. I just helped in an investigation on Wed with over 40 deer being shot in a month at night in my town, I know the info I gave will help close the deal on the arrest, I hope I see the favor returned someday, but I don't hold my breath. sorry, that just sounds rediculous, especially if you were in Hanover Co Jeff!!!

In Illinois bows are treated the same as guns. They have to be in a case or have the string and cables locked. It does not make sense to me, I am sure a police officer can shoot his side arm faster at me than I could shoot him with a bow, but that is the law.

Wow. That is ridiculous. Once I found myself in a situation that was totally innocent but looked bad. I was practicing at the range one day a few weeks before the season opened and when I was done, I threw my cased bow into my truck. That same day, I went to trim shooting lanes at a WMA. I put my bow in the cab of my truck, got my climber outand made sure I had good shots from a tree I intended to hunt from when the season opened. When I was done, A conservation officer happened to be driving by when I had my climber on the ground and had just taken my bow out of the cab. Well, I briefly explained myself and had no trouble at all. In fact, the officer recognized me because I had run into him a week before. He was in plain clothes then and training his dog in the general area that I was scouting so I didn't recognize him until he asked if that was me he ran into last week. He turned out to be a good guy.
