Something is messed up here, but I think it's your ability to read. I never said anything about shooting does!!! And just to play along with your logic. I think that if you look at deer densities across the mid west it is apparent that there is an overabundance of deer. Here in Wis. we are doing a huge amount of heard control including earn a buck and we still have a hard time keeping things in check. Also I believe the buck doe ratio of fawns born is about 50/50 so if your heard ratio isn't 50/50 then you are fighting against mother nature herself. My point is that I believe that we can manage our heards for both quantity and quality. But to do this it might take a few years of sacrifice. In todays world of "I want it right now" maybe thats too much to ask.

The logic is a little messed up. Wars have typically excluded women because they are what is needed to replenish the population, wasn't a macho thing. If people shoot doe's the result will be less deer in the future. A lot of doe's equals a lot less deer. I've never did the math but I'd say each doe equals tens of deer if you count theiroff springs off spring. Could even be in the hundreds.3 small bucks equals 3 small bucks. If I was a meat hunter and could add I wouldn't be shooting my breed stock until it's time to thin them out.
In Ohio's history the population of game decreased quickly and the people tried to do some thing about it. One of the biggest problems in reversing the trend was that the natives kept killing doe's by calling as a distressed fawn in the spring. They were strictly warned to stop the practise.

My feelings on antler restrictions: It is great idea!!!! It might take a year or two but after that we will havejust as many legal bucks as before and they will be bigger. Everyone wins! When a "meat" hunter kills a bigger buck he gets more meat.

Remove the restrictions and you wont have a deer problem. Most people don't shoot small bucks because they're bucks. Why is it people up there won't shoot a lesser deer if you have too many?Could it be peer pressure?

davidmil,
.........truly having no life outside of hunting.
.......... a really narrow, selfish way to run your life.
.......... That wouldn't be admirable... it would be pitiful.
Who in the hell do you think you are to judge someone Else's life decisions!!??[:@]
Are you God? The person I'm thinking of is a member here, he's single and it's always been a dream of his. I say congrats for living your dream! I don't condemn them.
Sometimes your posts are enlightening and enjoyable, but this time nothing but self righteousness and ignorance has sprung from your finger tips and mind.
Get a grip. It doesn't affect you, it's none of your business!
Holy crap!![:@]

Move to another state just so you can trophy hunt? Now that ladies and gentlemen is truly having no life outside of hunting. That group of people would be so small. I'd give up hunting tomorrow for the betterment of my family. No way would I make a life decision based on Trophy hunting. That really is a narrow, selfish way to run your life. That wouldn't be admirable... it would be pitiful.

I would like to have you explain how your solution helps improve the hunt for everyone, not just you. If my idea is so bad then instead of attacking and critisizing me I challenge you to develope a better plan. As for "peer pressure", I am my own man and I always do what I feel is right reguardless of what other people say.

I was trying to explain how I believe we could manage our deer herd so that all hunters could enjoy the hunt that they wanted. It is apparent that you want the solution that will suit your needs. You first say shooting bucks has little effect of the population, then you contradict yourself by suggesting we shoot small bucks to control our population.

It's hard to tell but I'm not atacking you just speaking publicly, in a public forum to many not just you about an ideaoligy you are doing the same, nothing personal either way. I don't fell atacked by you. Many say (not you
) shoot a doe, I'm saying there's reasons not too, that's all. It's good you always do what's right, wish I could say the same about myself, it just seems and this thread points it out that people are looked down on for shooting a lesser deer and that could be a contributing factor to the over population of deer in your state. A forced earn a buck law would further support the notion.
Your a little "fork horn" anyways, Ill give you a pass.
JUST KIDDING

Nodog,Earn a buck is actually working to reduce our herd. Guys that normally would not shoot adoe now have to in order to shoot a buck. Many hate it but I like it because we can carry eab over to the next season. so I can shoot a doe in a late season and I am ready for next season. And like any system it has its flaws. I personally advocate QDM but I am respectful of others rights to hunt in any legal manner that allows them to get max. enjoyment. I am saddened by how many times (in the short time I have been on here) that I am willing to give my opinions on how to make our sport better only to have someone tell me that I'm wrong instead of telling me their opinion on how to improve the situation. So far you have been unwilling to share your solution quote: "as far as a plan thats my business". Its possable that you have a great plan that allows for more trophy opportunity and opportunity for non trophy hunters. We won't know unless you share it with us. I would love to discuss this with you further but I will wait until you offer solutions not critisms. Pease and good luck in the woods.

There are some problems with it though. For instance you come here to hunt a short term. If you dont smack a doe right away it kinda sucks. Or guys that dont bow hunt have to go out on the rifle opener and shoot a doe. It would be great if eab could be transfered to another hunter. There are many years that I shoot more than one doe. I would gladly pass one on to another hunter. I think that over population is going to lead to more and more disease. I keep hearing about more all the time. Sometimes us hunters are asked to do things we might not want to do but it is good for the deer and the future of hunting. We have to keep that in mind.

Todd their is a proposal for Wi to allow everyone a chance at a buck in the EAB units.
You can kill a buck then every buck after that you have to kill a doe before another buck.
It was on JSONLINE.COM back in January and will presented I believe in April to the board.

Crtitisismsare a form of solution ifit can be backed up.
Minding "your own business" is my plan, it's not a common one these days, the lack of it is I believe the crux of the problem. There's no lack of people who want to tell people what to do, we don't need another.
