For those thinking about training a deer recovery dog, you should be saving your deer blood if you didn't save enough from when you gutted your deer this past season. After thawing your steaks, burger, & roasts pour the blood in a plastic container and store in the freezer. Some like to keep a couple of lower legs or a green hide in the freezer also to be used later when laying the training trails. I'll also mention that feeding your recovery dog raw or cooked pieces of ribs is a good way to reward your dog. Just ask your processor to cut your ribcage into small pieces and freeze.
