waiting 6 hours before tracking and gutting as soon as possable

Why in gods name would it take you 6 hours before gutting a deer? If you plan on waiting 6 hours before tracking theres something wrong or youre not confident enough in your shots. I can recover most of my deerwithin 30 minutes - 1.5 hoursof the shot, I find them, gut them, drag them to a access road, get the truck or gator what everi have there and throw it in the back, take it to town, get it registered, get it hung.

If I found it hard to drag one out of some thick woods, I wouldntrefuse to field dress one I just havent in the past. A good game bag will go in my pack nowin case that ever happens.

You should defenitely field dress asap. But if it really is as close as you say and would only take 5 or ten minutes to get it to the butcher then its not going to make a difference.

if your not sure of the shot always always wait it out i generally say if its in the back of the ribs 4-6hrs if its behind the ribs wait 8-10hrs. deer hit this way can run for miles if you bump them but if you leave them be they usually dont go far and lay down but still need to bleed out so giving them this time even ,if you bump them after waiting, will ensure that they havelost a good amount of blood and maynot run as far. anything hit in the front part of the ribs lung, heart area go after it 30-60minutes later, dont go running right after it, a deer with this wound will die and may notgo far after a bump but ive seen plenty of deer that still took 15-20 minutes to expire, coming up on a "dead" deer thats still got some spark left in himcan be dangerous and also cause apossible loss of a deer that shouldnt have gone anywhere.

The last deer I took.....I didn't recover until the next mroning. I never gutted this deer, period. I quartered it and removed the backstraps without gutting her......for the sake of time.
10 minutes is about right to field dress a deer. When the circumstances are right.....I do this ASAP.

I also process my own.
Hang him, peel the hide down to his chin.
Cut the back strap,shoulders off.
Make two small holes just behind the ribs (Be careful not to puncture the guts),
Reach in there, find the tenderloins grab em and gently pull and twist they come right out.
Cut around the butt hole and let it drop into the body cavity.
Cut the hams off.
Wrap the carcass in the hide and dispose of it.
No mess very little blood.
I don't eat the heart or liver - So there is no reason to disturb the guts.
Put the meat on ice in a cooler take it to the processor or cut it up yourself.
Naturally if you like to hang your deer for several days this won't work.
I like to leave mine on ice for 3 days or so and then cut, wrap and pack.
All this being said - If you want to gut one - Grab it and growl !!!!!!!!
The YOU TUBE video is pretty good.
It is not that hard.
