Do you gut your deer in the field or take it back to camp and gut it as u skin it or do u even gut it at all? I was always told u should gut it as soon as u harvest it to help with the cooling and quality of meat so i always gut as soon as i get to it. What do you all doe?

I always field dress mine, makes them easier to drag, I take some baggies with me for the heart and liver.

I always gut in the field. I think it just make the process go much smoother, faster, and for sure its much easier to drag.

I always field dress mine as soon as possible. I’ll drag it to a more open area and start the job.

I gut in the field. It makes easier to drag out, feeds other animals, and when it decays it goes back into the earth.

Aways in the field. Cooling the meat is one reason but a much lighter drag is the main reason! They are tuff enough to get out of the woods without all that extra wieght!

Once I get to where the deer laid down, I gut it there immediately. I don't want to leave them in and take a chance of getting a "gamey" taste in the meat. Also, it's a few less pounds to have to drag.
