RE: waiting 6 hours before tracking and gutting as soon as possable
if your not sure of the shot always always wait it out i generally say if its in the back of the ribs 4-6hrs if its behind the ribs wait 8-10hrs. deer hit this way can run for miles if you bump them but if you leave them be they usually dont go far and lay down but still need to bleed out so giving them this time even ,if you bump them after waiting, will ensure that they havelost a good amount of blood and maynot run as far. anything hit in the front part of the ribs lung,heart area go after it 30-60minutes later, dont go running right after it, a deer with this wound will die and may notgo far after a bump but ive seen plenty of deer that still took 15-20 minutes to expire, coming up on a "dead" deer thats still got some spark left in himcan be dangerous and also cause apossible loss of a deer that shouldnt have gone anywhere.
