waiting 6 hours before tracking and gutting as soon as possable

i am a new hunter third year out of four no kill

when i contacted a few butchers in my are i asked if i could pay a little extra and they did they gutting i live two blockes from them and hunt 2 miles from my house so in the time it would take me to gut the deer i could get to the butcher and they could do it

but they said that i need to do it as soon as possiable. I total agree with that but if i hit a deer leave it for 6 hours and then gut it when i find it wouldn't that be worst then haveing the butcher do the guting

Gut your own, after you gut your first its a cake walk with the rest!!! It takes like 10 minutes at the most!!!!!!!!!! Get a video or try and watch someone gut one and go from there!

I gutted my first deer this week and it was easier than i thought. There is a link on this website that gives a general outline of how to do it. My freind gutted mine last year while i watched and learned. Now i help out some family freinds of ours and we butcher our own deer at their house, and recomend it if you get the chance i learnedso much more about the anatomy ofa deer.

i hate hunting shows were you see them the next day still taking pick with the guts in the deer that what straight up horn hunters do. i read somewhere that the guts should be removed withing 1 hr after death because bacteria or somethign start but if you think you made a bad shot always wait it out but then get the guts out fast esp if its a bad shot that made you wait that long time.

In 18 years of hunting, I have never field dressed a deer or read anything saying that you should within 1 hour. Its a personal preference if you ask me. Id rather drag the extra weight than drag my meat through the mud etc.

You would find it very hard to drag most deer out of the thick woods up here if you didn't field dress it on the spot. For as far as mud and some small amount of water it has never been a problem. I do not think I would wait 6 hours before dressing either tho it would depend on the temps on if the meat is going to get bad on you. Field dressing ahelps to get the body heat out of it as well by letting the air into it quicker.

The last deer I took.....I didn't recover until the next mroning. I never gutted this deer, period. I quartered it and removed the backstraps without gutting her......for the sake of time.

10 minutes is about right to field dress a deer. When the circumstances are right.....I do this ASAP.
