Yup Kodiak, I was hoping you'd reply.. I know you hunt a lot of bear..I have a fawn in distress call I have tried..havent had much luck with it yet..maybe I am doing something wrong..
When I got started with mine I just had Sceery's video on predator calling to go by. I've never had a bear (black or brown), that I've been able to see when I started calling, not respond to it in either AK or ID. But I use the snowshoe hare distress call rather than the deer distress call. I've tried both and something about it seems to elicit a better response even when the same calling sequence is made, must be the higher pitch.

The ones you've got to watch out for are the ones you don't see... Be careful and don't blow until you're ready to shoot!

Rob,

Thanks, good info, I will look at the rabbit calls. Makes sense, I see rabbits up in that country whileshed huntin it. I'm huntingwolf and mountain lion country too which I may elicit a response from. Have you brought in many wolves with the rabbit call? One reason I prefer to spot and stalk over calling is the wolves. I'll keep my eyes open, like you said, thebears and lions too areso quiet.. amazingly quiet.. I almost always see them before I hear them..

We get to kill wolves up here so they're a bit too cagey to come in to the call. If bears hunted in packs I doubt you'd see them as often either...
Lions always creep me out while calling down there, especially turkey hunting; you'll never know they are there until you wake up under one...

Rob, yeah the wolves here don't associate humans with much danger. What parts of Idaho do you hunt in Rob..if you dont mind me askin..and again thanks for your advice.
