I think it's a great idea. Using a GPS correctly can give you one more advantage in hunting.

They are excellent. I've been using one for about 5 yrs now. I don't even mark my tree stands with tacks anymore, the GPS is good enough you can find anything you have marked even in the dark. If you get one with map software you can upload all of the points from your GPS to your computer and see exactly where everything is on a map, and even print it out. They are worth the money.

It will be a Merry Christmas for you! If you hunt many places they are the ticket. They can take you very close to anything in the dark as well as remember possible stand sites year after year.

It is a good idea to have some illumination at the spot once your set for a few days so you don't have to wonder around to much. Mine reads well but slower than I can move so, it will point in one direction and not correct for a second or 2. Great tool, would hate for mine to go down. I and some others tried one of those Knight and Hale beacons this year. Really helps.

Hint! Always keep the batteries good or you'll be in for some trouble.[8D]

i am glad to hear this becuase i have a hard time finding my stand in the mournings. I have also been lost in the woods befor. I went to some new land and had to hunt it without scouting our anything. when I tried to find my way out, I got lost. I found my way out after a hour but i gets a litle scary when you think you are lost.

The benefits of the use of Gps's are many. You are only limited by your time and creativity.I have used one for years,my initial goal was just to get in and out of big woods with a lot more confidence.I would advise the use of a compass in conjunction with your Gps.They are mechanical devices and can fail.In 8 years of use I have never had it happen but you want to be prepared.
I have many locations marked that I can go right back to.Stand locations, area's that were abundant with sign, funnels of many types.
With the topigraphical map and aerial photograph programs available you can enter in coordinates of area's that look good on these resources and go right to them.Very cool and useful stuff.
I hope you enjoy it!
