Ok, I didn't have time to hunt this evening but I did have an hour to go out to my spot and scout and hang a dripper over a scrape for the weekend. I was done and on my way out and walking down the dirt access road when I see a fresh rub on a pine tree right beside the road where I have seen a nice buck cross 2 times about 2 weeks ago. The rub was made yesterday or last night because I hunted yesterday morning. This is a traveled road, easy access, and sees some automobile traffic from other would-be hunters. It is on semi-public land (military base). Should I cut the tree so no other hunters see the rub and start scouting my spot? Or should I leave it alone and hunt the piss out of the deer this weekend and try to get him?

If it's a single rub then the only thing it's really telling you is that a buck was there. If it is one rub amongst others along a rub line then it probably indicates that the deer has been spending some time in the area and futher investigation is required. The rub along the road was more than likely made duriong the night since you mentioned the road gets traffic.

It gets traffic.....like maybe 3 cars/trucks a day/night. But that is enough because most of those are out looking for signs of deer and places to hunt. This will make the 15th rub and 5 scrapes within a 1/4 mile area. Not all of them are in a line, and this one is not in a line.
