If it's a single rub then the only thing it's really telling you is that a buck was there. If it is one rub amongst others along a rub line then it probably indicates that the deer has been spending some time in the area and futher investigation is required.The rub along the road was more than likely made duriong the night since you mentioned the road gets traffic.
