The more I watch the show, the more I think its not meant to cater to those that are older or hunt very much. Its to be "cool" to kids and get their interest in hunting.
As for where he hunts, I could care less if its behind a fence. He uses the meat, its no different than any other kind of livestock farming.
As for his personal life, not my business, but look at the rock star life - he's pretty tame compared to alot of them. And I'm certainly no angel, and I'm pretty sure theres a lot of ordinary people who arent either.

Lol, oh yea. His "subliminal" intentions are good. He wasn't gut-shooting a fawn for the camera; he was "teaching" us "the importance of culling small deer as needed for the betterment of an overall her."
Yea, that's the ticket.

Out of curiosity isyour problem more with the ( as you claim ) gut shot or more with the size of the deer ?
From the HSUS website ...
Hunters will sometimes kill a second deer because it has bigger antlers or "rack" than the first
Rather, deer hunters seek out the bucks that have the largest rack.
I kinda like the idea of seeinga bit of harvest diversitybeing shown on a TV hunting show other than the usual 12 point RACK being taken.

In the eyes of some ( evident by a few of the posts here ) Ted Nugent may not be the most desirable person to represent hunting. To that I will simply say that you are welcome to step forward and become that voice. A bit of advice though. I doubt that Ted Nugent is going to change hisdelivery or become "mute" on hunting anytime soon, thusany of you prospective spokespersonsout there might be better off concentrating your efforts onother things suchas promoting and protecting hunting rather than wasting it on NUGE bashing.

Ted shoots a lot of animals and a lot of them are more livestock than wild game.
He's right in that you have to kill a bunch of them to keep the numberrs down .. remembers, fenced areas, no predators are the norm for where he hunts.
I don't mind shooting does, spikes, etc etc. The trohpy isn't gauged by the size of the deer, or lack of. Ted did seem pretty happy with them, didn't he ?
The shots were bad for my book ...... but thats my book, not his.

I finally saw the show last night. It really didn't phase me much. The only thing I didn't agree with was the neck shot. I really can't say much about a gut shot since I'm guilty of doing that once myself.
Honestly, the most entertaining part of his show was when they had the party at their ranch for the families of the fallen soldiers. Especially the parts where the people were trying venison for the first time and where Ted was teaching the kids how to shoot a bow.

If you listen to what this man says, and watch what he does.... He is definatley notwho I want representing me as an outspoken leader for bowhunters. The guy is way, way out there. I think he is a nut. And the deer he usually hunts look mighty tame...

Tim4Trout, I see no redeeming qualities in "da nuge" at all, none.
I don't think he intends to promote anything but "da nuge," period.
I cannot begin to imagine him doing anything positive, but "subliminal."
He killed what he killed on that particular day because it was convenient and the camera was rolling. Nothing more, nothing less. It would nice to imagine that he might have better intentions and it is a testament to your good heart that you would hope to see that within that particular show, but alas, I've seen too much from this character to hold ANY faith in him anymore at all.
I've watched him take so many marginal shots over the years, I've seen his shots show poor penetration with regularity and I think his shot placement skills are, imo, among the lowest ever televised.
I won't even begin to address my opinion of the crudity he employs when venturing an idea that supposedly "represents" sportsman.
He will continue to succeed, but only because Americans have no bottom to the level of stupidity they will revisit out of curiosity and habit. If you can bang to soda cans together well enough that someone can snap their fingers to it, you can call it music and many will buy it. In this case, if he's holding a bow or a gun, he'll have a following.
Forgive me if you think I came on too strong, but reaching for positive subliminal messages from "da nuge" seems like a horribly impossible stretch to me.

I guess Ted isn't for everyone.
I'll just say this, though........Don't EVER be fooled into thinking all the Primos boys and Michael Waddel show you all THEIR shots, either. I'm sure there are some GREAT bowhunters in this forum.....and I'm sure these same guys have gutshot an animal, before. I give credit to ted for showing us HIS "reality".
I'll also say......I'd let my 14yr old go to Ted's hunting......with Ted. I'd let my son play for Bobby Knight. A successful hunt doesn't HAVE to involve a kill.....but it often does. Ted makes NO BONES about the fact that he's going to kill something....and eat it.
That's what we do.
