Overall, I feel most TV shows represent good shooting tips as most hunters always say "Wait until it gets broadside." But sometimes people take really dumb shots...bad angles, behind brush, quartering away/to, and I even saw a hunter take his daughter and let her shoot it dead in the bu

quartering to shots are highly effective if placed properly. I shot a doe a few weeks ago with this kind of shot and it took out the heart and both lungs, and she piled up 40 yards from shot, however, I do not recommend this shot to someone who shoots their bow a couple of times and goes hunting I shoot my bow 5-12 hours a week in the summer and shoot regularly during the season and am pretty accurate to 60 yards. To me a properly placed shot is acceptable, I've seen people wait for the perfect broadside shot and hit it in the gut, butt, etc and only wound the animal. Let me make it clear though , I don't really like to take a quartering shot, but if that is the only shot that I feel I'm going to get, I will try to pick out the perfect hair and drill it. Also, I don't like to see people using these gadgets like the draw lock(accidents waiting to happen!), it's taking away from our wonderful sport

Ditto

as for the quatering to shot i shot a doe a couple weeks ago and did make a successful recovery, it all depends on how confident u are in your shots and if u can pull it off in the heat of the moment. I am one of the people that practice almost everyother day durin the summer so i was confident in shot placement and this is only my second year huntin with a bow, and i guess i can say that i am luck not to be affected by buck fever durin the shot, which can lead to bad shots. as for the lady on her first hunt and only shotin a bow a few times i do not think that she should have even been in the woods with a bow let alone take a shot like that, very luck it seems to me that she was. good luck and good huntin

I guess some hunters don't think any shot is bad. As long as you can put an arrow in it then your good to go.

Why are some saying "it's not up to me to say what's right and wrong". Well who is it up to. Who says drinking and driving is bad or murder or theft. We as a society stand up and hold individuals to certain standards. So why is it any different for hunting. If something isn't right we need to stand up and not be afraid to say so. If someone is doing something that's unethical then don't be afraid to say so. Having some smart mouth kid that seems to know it all tell everyone to shut up when they disagree with him just shows this persons unwillingness tolisten and maybe learn something.

GOD BLESS AMERICA and the lost who don't know it.

One thing to keep in mind when watching huntings shows is that the cameraman is not the one shooting the deer. Sometimes the angles look bad from the cameras view , not always but it happens alot. I personally don't have a problem taking a slight quartering towards shot when I know for certain I can take out a lung and liver in one clip.

As for the "majority -vs- the minority" religion thing? I'm not sure us "God believers" are "far outnumbered" as you seem to indicate. One thing I am sure about is.....it will be acold day in hell before I or my family start walking on egg shells in fear of making any reference to God in public because it might offend someone, wether we're the minority or not!!!

Jesus still loves ya man!

AMEN!!!

I can't really say one way or the other on taking quartering shots. I've seen it done on several of the hunting shows I watch and it seems to get the job done. I do agree that we need to try to take a shot that will make a quick kill, but sometimes that just doesn't happen.

Mr. Mcgee, I agree that some poeple are religious and others are not, but one of the wonderful things about living in the USA is freedom of speech. That very right gives people like myself and SBGobblers the right to talk freely about religion and this same right gives you right to spread your hate and discontent or whatever you want to call it.

GOD BLESS THE USA!

It all depend on how QTR the deer is... I shot my Second Largest buck to date on a Quater to shot.. He came in and was quartering to, too much and i had to wait, he would turn, wouldnt turn, finally he did, and he was offering a good enough shot for me to take, i hit him perfect, just behind the shoulder, it exited just in front of the Hind quater. He ran about 70 yrds and piled up. I've always had really good luck with One Lung and Liver shots. They DIE fast..

Why do people on here get so pissed so fast about people comments.. Big deal, what other people think.. I sure as hell don't.

Good Luck Hunting.

GMHENRY,

My reply was meant for quickkillmgee who said
I know some of the people on this forum are religious but some of us aren't so do the few of us a favor and keep the gospel to yourself please.
That has got to be the most hypocritical statement I have ever read. Think about it. He has a belief that people shouldn't write anything religious, and he's pushing that belief on all of us while at the same time crying foul because we write about our beliefs.

See the hypocrisy?

Good point BOWFANATIC- in the videos I've seen, the cameraman's perspective or view is often different than the shooter's. While some hunts have the cameraman positioned right behind the shooter, quite often the camera is positioned to one side or the other of the person with the bow. This can make it seem from our perspective that the shooter is taking a quartering-to shot, when in fact it may be a broadside shot.

Having said that, a slightly quartering-to shot when the deer is at close range (provided the hunter is very proficient w/his or her bow, and provided the hunter has a good understanding of deer anatomy) in my mind is acceptable, though not the best shot to take.
