On the buck that I mentioned above, it was a complete pass through. 145 grain muzzy four blade.
Funny how a photoshopped pic can stir this place up. I'm not so convinced a field-tipped arrow would penetrate two places in the skull and have enough power to keep come out a couple feet.

I have shot deer in the head you gonna kick my ass?? Seriously dude grow up before you post!!! If you read what I said you would realize that the shot to the head would stop the heart.... the blood would be minimal due to the fact that it was a head shot and the arrow tip embedding itself into the body would cause minimal blood loss unless it penetrated inside the body a lot further! If you look the head of the arrow is trapped under the skin between the fat and the meat... which means there would be no blood loss!! The most you might expect on the arrow is some brain matter and nothing more which has a minimal chance of happening since the arrow penetrated the head so fast the tip pushes the matter to the sides and the arrow can pass through without hardly any contact! For a person who is " in the last year of my criminal justice degree, and all the investigation and crime scene classes you had to take" You would realize that the wound wouldn't produce any blood! The head of a deer is mych like the head of a humans it has blood in it but a lot smaller amount and seeing as you can't really get a good look at the arrow since its black and any blood would blend in and you wouldn't be able to see it unless inspected in real life you need to go back through those classes and pay closer attention. Besides that, if the deer was already dead.... why put an arrow into its head?

I have to laugh (in disgust) at comments like these:
"whatever shot presents itself"
"not a shot I practice alot but would take a spine shot"
You guys are kidding, right? So with that logic a lesser deer or a mere doe would constitute only taking a carefully placed, well thought out, waited on shot through only the broadside vital area whereas the tactics of taking a "buck of a lifetime" change to a hail mary approach if that's the only shot available simply because the deer is a once in a lifetime buck? Wow. That's sick.
Years ago I had a very nice 150 class buck in range for what seemed like all day. He of course stopped on the side of my tree that had tangles of branches in front of me. No shot. I told the story to the guy that was hunting with me that day and he was shocked that I didn't at least try a shot on him. "You didn't even try a hail mary on a buck that big?", he asked. My reply, "No moron, what's the point in pulling the trigger unless you are sure of your target!!". Needless to say, I don't hunt with this guy anymore.
Thats what im sayin a monster 14 point buck hell yeah id take that shot, once in a lifetime opp. damn right im gonna try for whatever shot presents itself.

This has been a really wierd thread! You don't see this much here!
You can do what you want, but....
I would NOT take the shot. IMHO, it is disrespectful to the animal. I am good friends with an older gentleman, who is a Creek Indian. They considered that kind of kill to be wrong, and that it displeased God. I agree.

Both of you need to be quiet. If thats the only shot you can take and you really need the meat i can gurantee both of you would take it. I shot my doe in the back legs running with my 12 gauge at about 80 yards. For the finishing off shot i walked up to her and shot her in the head with my 12 gauge. So because of that i should of had my hunting rights taken away for life?
If you have to ask if that is a good shot than you need a lesson in ethical hunting.
If someone did shoot it in a hunting situation they need to have their hunting rights taken away for life.
Yes, actually you should. Why would you shoot a doe or any animal in the back legs? you give hunters a bad name and should stay under the rock you crawled out from

You are correct but incorrect on that statement. There is a killing shot in the hind quarters, but not recomended, my friend shot a monster 14 pointer a couple weeks ago, this was his first time bow hunting. The buck came in right under his stand and he tried for the spine, and shot him in the hind quarters and he dropped. So yes there is kill shot in the butt. Lol.

The foot and rear end are not kill shots unless you shoot it directly in the rectum, the head is.

Now that is EXPERIENCE right there talking. Lets shoot for the ears if we have to. You give NY'ers a bad name.

Every liver shot will kill the deer every head shot will not.
My 15 yr old passed on a huge 8 pt Saturday morning, because the deer didn't give him the shot he was confident with. I'm very glad he didn't take a head shot. Some of the folks on this thread make me want to puke.
