I have to laugh (in disgust) at comments like these:
Thats what im sayin a monster 14 point buck hell yeah id take that shot, once in a lifetime opp. damn right im gonna try for whatever shot presents itself.

.. again spine shot not recomeded but id at least try that on a big buck. i have in the past. not a shot i practice alot but woudl take a spine shot if I knew he was going to drop.
"whatever shot presents itself"
"not a shot I practice alot but would take a spine shot"
You guys are kidding, right? So with that logic a lesser deer or a mere doe would constitute only taking a carefully placed, well thought out, waited on shot through only the broadside vital area whereas the tactics of taking a "buck of a lifetime" change to a hail mary approach if that's the only shot available simply because the deer is a once in a lifetime buck? Wow. That's sick.
Years ago I had a very nice 150 class buck in range for what seemed like all day. He of course stopped on the side of my tree that had tangles of branches in front of me. No shot. I told the story to the guy that was hunting with me that day and he was shocked that I didn't at least try a shot on him. "You didn't even try a hail mary on a buck that big?", he asked. My reply, "No moron, what's the point in pulling the trigger unless you are sure of your target!!". Needless to say, I don't hunt with this guy anymore.
