You are the one advocating making getting a chance at a bigger buck easier........not me.
When did I say that? I'm not promoting making it "easier", I'm advocating making it POSSIBLE!!! I've read it over and over from hunters across the country that just plain and simple have NO, NADA, ZERO mature bucks to hunt because venison addicts like yourself only seem to care about satiating your glutonous desires and can't see the forest through the trees because your belly is in the way and you slay anything brown "as long as it's legal". Nice.
Why not just rifle hunt or just go to the grocery store?

It's only me and my 3-year old who eat venison in the house and a 200lb buck provides plenty for us. I donated a 120lb doe to the hungry last year...how much meat did you donate to the less fortunate????
Do you fear monster bucks...because really, the "monster" is just a metaphore...they are not really monsters if that is what keeps you up at night with the light on and your covers pulled tight up to your chin with visions of monster mature bucks stampeding you to death...it's the old analogy, they are more scared of you than you of them. Really, it's ok if a buck makes it to maturity, you will still be safe in the woods.
I noticed you have avoided addressing this multiple times now..........I don't blame you, it pretty much flushes all your BS down the drain

Why do you live in such denial?? Did you not read TXHighrack say it was no challenge at all to kill a "mature" buck on his land?? Did you not see the multiple posts from guys who said their land hadn't produced a "trophy" in decades and now they kill a couple a year and see them all the time??
I can't comment to TXHighrack's experience but I know several dozen bowhunters in my state and they wouldn't waste the little breath required to tell you to just go home and continue ruining your deer population than to explain to you the immense challenge in bowhunting free roaming mature whitetail bucks. You're so off base here I'm surprised I've wasted my time. You don't know it and evidently, you Doubting "Atlasman" Thomas, must have to stick your fingers in the holes before you believe it and it is a shame you'll never know the wonderful experience.

Whoah nellie! "This poster" being me, has NEVER killed any spikes, forkies, or baby bucks...not even a button mistaken for a doe!!![:@] I hunted for 4 years before I ever even killed a buck and he was 1 inch over PY. Never gun hunted deer and have 7 bucks on the wall averaging 141. I lost track of the number of does I've killed but I DO practice what I preach!

My words have been twisted (misquoted)so many times in this thread from their original meaning that I will set the record straight. I have never said that it is a "given" to see trophy deer every time out. I said "it is almost a given to see mature deer every time out". Not every mature deer is a trophy. It is my opinion that there are very few mature deer that are actually trophies. I get a better feeling from letting the smaller, younger deer walk then from killing them. I have went severalseasons without releasing an arrow but I can assure each and every one of you that I have enjoyed my hunts just as much as anyone. Isn't that what it is all about?
After a while, all that got old to me. I realized (as I matured as a hunter) that shooting "a" deer, or "a buck" was not that difficult, and did not offer me satisfaction overall. My thought process began to change. As I learned more about deer herds, I realized that taking a doe was usually more beneficial to the herd, than taking the small buck. Plus...I honestly didn't get a thrill out of shooting a young buck anymore. I agree with Buckeye, they are stupid and easy to kill.
If I dont kill a deer that meets up to my expectations this season,I will not count this season as a loss. I can guarantee you that I will enjoy my hunts just as much as the next guy regardless if I kill or not.
In closing I will add the following. I practice QDM and Atlasman is correct(did I really write that), I do this to make my chances of killing a real trophy deer greater. Does it make killing a trophy easier? I hope so but I doubt that the odds will be much more in my favor. Do I enjoy going into the woods and letting deer after deer walk under my stand while I wait for the one that meets my self prescribed requirements? You bet! Do I belittle people who have different views than me? Of course not.

I would be staring at an empty freezer by February.

I am simply showing you what others have said about what happens when they take your advice.............you are just upset because it doesn't jive with the BS you are pushing on everyone else.

It is so refreshing to see some guys actually be honest about QDM.........I don't know why so many guys try to BS everyone with all the noble smokescreens and bravado. Good for you man.......if more guys had the guts to be honest about it instead of trying to fool or guilt everyone into following along QDM may get a warmer reception.

i've only read the first 6 pages of this thread, and i'm beyond fed up with it. every area is different, producing bucks that are different, for hunters that are different, and all run by 'legislators' that are different and so on and so on.
if it's a trophy in your mind take it, if not fine, let it go for the next guy who thinks it is and we'll all be happy.
just quit your bitchin and go huntin'!!!!!

Good for you Wolfen. I bet the 4 years you spent waiting for the right deer to come along was time well spent in your opinion.
Wolfen - Unlike you I have killed my share of these younger deer in my days. I am more like WV Hunter.WV Hunter has expressed my feelings about hunting almost word for word in the quote above. I feel that I have matured into the hunter that I am today by working my way up from the easy kills of the younger, less wise deer up to the Kings of the woods.
I learned so much those first few years of hunting and laugh when I look back at some of my "theories" about deer and the one thing I love about this game is that if I hunt for a hundred more years, I will never stop learning and discovering...it's simply awesome.
I must pay due respects to the real heroes like WVhunter who are fighting a very tough battle in improving the health and quality of the deer herd that they hunt. The buck-to-doe ratio is incredibly out of whack, and browner downer gun slayers hammer the deer every year but that's not all...the genetics are just flat out poor and yet Mike and his buddies stay true to QDM and take their share of does and let the young deer go so they can grow. If anyone I know gets a monster buck this year, I hope it is him. Good luck buddy!!!

I gave meat to probably 10-15 different families last year..........just me.
We also put 50 lbs into the freezer for our gun clubs yearly wild game dinner which I cook, clean and serve less fortunate people at all day every year.

I thought I'd add a little tidbit of info I got today, since it fits in to the theme of this thread.
My buddy that lives in WV called last night. He has 100 acres that we hunt on, and practice QDM on. Anyhow in this area of WV, there are alot of deer, fairly poor genetics, and alot of pressure. We also have some genetic traits we see fairly often. One being piebalds. 3 years ago, a piebald fawn buck showed up at his place. We watched him...cool looking deer. The following year he was spike with about 4 inch horns.Last year he was still alive (which is a feat in itself up there, even if he wasn't half white) and he again was a spike with larger, cow horn type spikes.
So anyhow...he calls and asks me if I remember the deer....I say of course I do, he's the piebald we've seen for a while. He says "he's still here, and he's a 15" 8point now".
WOW! That is a huge jump from 2.5 to 3.5
We'd probably have never known if he wasn't so identifiable, being half white.
It just goes to show you....let them go, and they will grow
Good luck guys!

... Do yourself and every other hunter a favor and let them grow andshoot a doe. Who knows, you may eventually shoot a buck worth bragging about.
