Hi Josh - good to see you in the forums btw!
I very much doubt that Spot Hogg makes a living by slipping extra charges in to their customers. Spot Hogg makes a good product - as I mentioned before, I ended up buying the sight somewhere else anyway.
I can agree with you that it was a misunderstanding. These things happen. What I was upset about was the way it was handled by Spot Hogg. Firstly, warning bells came on when I saw the charge come through on my credit card. I had no idea pins were not included and nowhere is this reflected in the correspondence. The only numbers we talked were $24 + shipping. Surely a flag should've come up somewhere in your system and someone could've flicked me an email to see if I was still in at $69?
Fine - this did not happen. And I am fully aware of the dealer protection program (most manufacturers do this) - but should one blindly follow this rule when things go wrong? I just didn't get that 'Spot Hogg will go an extra mile for you' feeling. I got the 'Spot Hogg will not undersell the dealer, no matter what' feeling. Had you offered to go 50/50 with me on the pins I would've probably gone for this - even if this would've cost me $53 vs a complete sight for $59 (at most archery dealers). Instead my score card looks like this:
Greg: -$25 (shipping both ways), no sight. Spot Hogg: 0.
I checked my credit card and Spot Hogg refunded me the full amount for the sight head, but nothing for the shipping as was promised (and even mentioned in your post!). Oh well, I guess just another misunderstanding....

I know what I'm talking about. The business I own and run has brought in for every dollar spent to rectify a problem thousands of dollars. In my opinion for SH to come on this forum and defend itself is appalling.

I agree with Nodog. Instead of coming on here and defending their position, Josh could have really shined if he said he would do whatever it takes to make it right. I own a service business and have to refund $ to unsatisfied customers from time to time. It's the nature of the business even if I feel I have been wronged. But as a smart business owner, I know if I am lucky, a happy customer will tell 2-3 friends and family how great their experience with my company was. On the other hand, if a customer feels they have been screwed (whether they were or not), they are likely to tell 15-20 people about their bad experience. Not telling you how to run your business, Josh, but which customer would you rather have????? BTW, I am in the market for new sights and this thread indeed changed my perception of your company, deserved or not. JMHO

I think this is creating a mountain out of a molehill. Everyone has the right to their own opinion. I dont think it was a dollar issue and more of a communication breakdown than anything. I dont think that outsiders know all the true inner details, and as a business owner, I think Josh took the appropriate action. I know if I feel I was screwed I will go direct to the horses mouth, usually people who answer phones dont have the athority to change orders and refund on the spot. I know if I have a special order of something I make sure I know the facts and all bits and pieces before i even give my credit card out.
I really admire Josh for his integrity to come on and try to make things right, when he had no idea of the bashing behind his back.
I think the bad communiction started at (on my initial email I specified a head to be pinguard and pins) I would have sent him the piguard and pins as well.
It is hard to handle issues with a low man on the Totem pole....... always go for the upper guys that have the Clout........ JMHO...

Guys,
Thanks for the support here. Much appreciated. Josh has PM'd me and at least refunded half of the shipping fee (one way) as he initially agreed to. So guess we can put this one to bed now.....
In the meantime, I've just got a delivery ticket from the courier company to collect a parcel - I believe that it is my sight I bought through Lancaster archery!
Cheers,
Greg

I'm glad you were able to salvage something from the experience. I was impressed with their sights (SH) when they first appeared and made a call to the company to gather more information about them. The person I spoke to was less than friendly, perhaps he thought I wanted to infringe on a copyright... maybe he had a bad day, who knows... but he ended up gruffly telling me to buy a Copper John sight. That made me want to buy two sights... elsewhere.
