I agree with CWB the toe warmers are the best thing since sliced bread!!!!!Jack Ryan putting bread bags over you socks? that is about the worst thing you can do. I dont know if your feet sweat but mine do put plastic bags over your socks your feet are going to sweatand in minutes freeze. That was a trick my grandma tried 30 yrs ago didnt work then either. Or maybe it dont get as cold where you are at.

Time for a recheck.

You put the bags over your feet and then put on your socks. Your feet still sweat but your socks don't get wet so you feet stay warm. Wet but warm.

If your feet sweat any way, which do you want, wet and warm or wet feet wet socks AND cold.

Try it. You'll like it.

Like I said, it's something to try short of new boots. It doesn't compete with a good set of boots but keeping your socks dry is going to improve the insulation value no matter what kind of boots you wear.

I bought a set of boots from a magazine (Sportsman's Guide, I think) for $59. They're not quite identical to the 'Mickey Mouse' military boots, but they're similar. Very wide. They have 2,000 grams of Thinsulate and I made sure to order them at least a size too big.

I haven't had any problems with my feet getting cold in them at all and I only wear one pair of socks. Haven't used heat packets or anything special for socks at all. IMO, having plenty of room in the boots makes a huge difference; I compare it to wearing mittens as opposed to gloves.

Of course, the one drawback is that they aren't great for doing a lot of walking, but they get me to the stand and back just fine.
