I was out trying a new recipe in my Knight Disc 50 cal 2 days ago and when I removed the used primer from the gun I noticed that the centers of the primer was basically destroyed. In one case the center was separated from the outer rim. Could this be bad primers?? I was shooting 80 grains of T7 FFFg and Hornady SST in 300 grains. I quit shooting after 4 shots because of the primer situation. Any suggestions??

Sounds like it could be blowback destroying the primers if the gun is firing ok I wouldn' t worry too much about it.Also try a less fine powder like ff because fff is best used in small caliber guns,or try pellets.

You say what brand of primers-- I' ve had Remingtons fragment, never Federals. FFg is what Knight recommends, the recoil will be less sharp as well.

The primers in question are CCI' s. The new ones I purchased are Winchester. Just as soon as the weather clears up I will be out giving them a try. Sounds like I better purchase some FFg too according to you guys.

I have never had a problem with the Win. 209 primers made especially for ML applications. However, I have never used any 209' s of any kind with 777, which operates at higher pressures than black or Pyrodex! This could be the cause, but 80 grains doesn' t sound excessive!

Try you new primers and see. I' ve been using (in my knight Disc)Winchester 209 and never had a problem. If it still happens try using Pyrodex Pellets.It might be getting blow back destroying your primers from the loose powder?????You ought to call Knight and see what suggestions they can offer.

CCI produces (2) 209 primers. One is CCI-M (magnum)... the other is CCI. Going to the cooler one & switching to FF powder should solve your problem.
