Met a famous LEGEND today at the shooting range!

No where near a Cabelas. I'm in a small town of 2200 at 8500ft. My hunting area is 10 min away. I'm right on the Arkansas River for fly fishing. I can make a tank of gas last me a month and hunt and fish everyday. I was careful when I picked this town to retire in. I love this area.
I tried the IMR White Hots. Pretty good powder similar to T7. Not cheap by any means. Pellets only.
I have a source for BH, but like I said. I won't be using much.
I have a new plan. I've been thinking about it. I was going to just hunt Muley's from now on. I think instead i'll hunt elk cows instead. Much better tasting and more meat. I can make a cow last me almost a year. Just me and the dog.
I'll switch from the PT Gold 260gr to the 300gr. It should be perfect for a cow elk.

if its Trail boss you're talking about, dont use it. I got an email from Chris Hodgdon saying how people think trail boss is safe for a muzzle loader and are using it. Its 100% smokeless powder and not approved for muzzle loaders.

A long time ago Westenr said part of the high cost was the way BH had to manufactured (the shape of it) but what I am saying is the shape of it is no different than and IMR powder #???? @ $21 a pound and it is a lot more powerful.

Muley Hunter
Lucky dang dog!
Ya, I am not much of a deer hunter, elk are my passion but the wolves here are getting more than their fair share.
We have a few muleys in this area and a lot more whitetail. I hunt fairly local and our whitetails do not get the massive racks. Getting a whitetail around here is pretty much a ho-hum thing.
When I was younger - much younger and could go where the elk really were - I did not even bother with hunting deer.
I use a 300 grain for elk also. I was using .458/300 Nosler Partitions, but have switched to Lehigh .458/300 grain bullets as of late.

No it is not Trail Boss, it was a 4?60 or 44 can not remember I have written down... but it is not even close to being a ML powder. I think they might use it in a Savage.

I do know the powder you are talking about but ive never seen it. It is very popular but by weight its more than twice as powerful as BH209 and just changing from a 250 to a 300gr bullet can have a HUGE effect on pressures. You have less than a 10gr minimum too max window also.

I've always hunted both to extend the seasons, but I don't need that anymore. I'll just put all my energy into elk. Way more fun to hunt for elk. As you say. Deer are kind of easy, and I never did get used to eating venison.

This was my last date with a furry young lady - 2 years ago

Little more meat than a whitetail - and cooks up a lot better....

I believe it may be the other way around. The price of BH209 has been going down.. With the lack of T7 sales they will have no other option but to start raising prices. Better yet maybe Hodgdon will redesign their powder to burn cleaner. I just had to say it.....sounded good to me

Can you gift wrap that case of BH209 and mail it to me?
