Omega - Pulled Charge...

Well the main thing is you trust your rifle and your load and you're willing to drag your old xxx out of bed and get into the woods. You are sure to have some luck soon. We will be waiting for the story of that as well.

Huntin' in the rain sucks...unless it's for ducks.
Try to recover the slug and get the pictures posted by Sunday.
Shooting a Speer or Nosler? ....and how far was that buck down on the road?

I kinda like hunting in the rain other than you get wet... but it hides a lot of noise for ya...
The shooterwas at least 200 and probably more like 250 yards down below and to the north of me. Like I said if I had the 270 he would have been down.
Still shooting the 260 grain Nosler -as long as I have them... although the price oflead has dropped quite a bit... 25# bag of shot was only $34 the other day when I was in Black Sheep - that is a whole lot better than the $50 it was a few months back.
I wish I had drove around to see if there was a camp in Strychnine rock pile - there is a really big trailer camp up behind Hansen's shop.

That is why i pulled the load today - I still remember ole Triple Seven lecturing about how T7 draws water or moisture. I have not been really able to prove that even though I know it is a common belief - but I thought I had better check myself - so out came the powder.
It is all loaded up again now and ready to go - think Terry has a bunch of volunteer stuff tomarrow so I think I will head to the woods again.

I like hunting in the rain too.
All the wooss are home in bed then so the deer are doing their normal stuff.
I have never had T 7 draw moisture even in the Remingtons although I do use the weathersheild with them.
6 Days and counting here. I was just telling a friend this morning I seen all those bucks and got pictures of them right up untill they shed their valvet. I haven't seen one since the one shredding the nine bard shrub at the end of Sept.
Their are signs of them in the woods however. Broken limbs off small trees with the bark all rubbed off. Bare spots in the leaf rubble all muddied up or dry with a track or two in it and of course the licking branch close by all chewed up.

Hey Yooper! how are things going? 6 days left - I am waiting for the 22nd. than I can hunt elk... that is my true passion... normally deer have to find me.
I agree with your words about T7 in the Remington... There are a lot people that think it sucks up the water... but here is a experiment for you to try sometime - maybe you have already seen me post this - one of the reasons that T7 is harder to ignite is I beleive it is coated with a something to protect the powder from absorbing moisture - anyway - try this... put some water in a small bowl place that some where that it will not be disturbed (bounced-moved)for awhile - then drop in some T7 from a spoon - Now I mean right now BP or Pyro will start disolving - but look at the T7- it reamains in its granular form. Walk away and check several hours later... if it has no been sloshed around it will still be granular. If you could wait for the water to evaportae and the powder to dry - you could shoot it... I did this several years ago... I like T7 - I like BH too but I can not afford it unless I quit shooting.

I have had similar results with my Omega loads staying dry as well. However I no longer attempt to push the load out, I just go ahead and shoot it. Here is a brief story of what I did a couple years back after hunting in a downpour:
I screweda T handle on the ramrod and decided to push the bullet out. Keep in mind it is warm out so I have my shirt off. The bullet/sabot was much tighter than I had expected and I guess I was really leaning overt the handle. Suddenly the T handle broke and ran the ramrod across my chest. The cut was about half the diameter of the ramrod deep and about 4 inches long.

yep1 I have heard about more than one of thos incedents... but i am to cheap to shoot a $ bullet out - so when I get back to the truch or home I use my range rod to push it out...
Oh! by the way OUCH!

Believe me, there were a few more choice words said as well!

Mike,
For me personally things have been going well. On the other hand I have been as busy as a one armed paper hanger.
Kares dads cancer has came back (mid June) really bad this time so she has been doing those almost daily doctor appointments with him.
I in turn learned how much she helps me when we pull honey and extract it. I did that all alone this year and some thing that normally takes about a week turned into 3 weeks. Still have one holding tank full of honey to strain yet to, but am in no hurry to do that. It is going to the wholesaler any way.
Since Kare is so busy I am staying home this year so I can take care of the animals and do the bees feed and medicines. Even that is running behind.I did set up two of my portable blinds in the woods and a over growen fence row yesterday. Today I am setting up the third one plus taking out the 700/ 54 to shoot. Got some 300gr. Gold Dots in white MMP sabots you sent I'm going to try. I ran out of the purple MMP sabots so I could shoot the 300gr. 50 cal Gold Dots.
Just didn't get around to ordering them in time to use this season.
Nice thing about that Remmy, it shoots nearly every thing you can push down the bore well.
Got to wondering last evening about trying those 50 cal bullets in some Knight sabots you sent that swim in the bore with .452 bullets
I like hunting white tails and have gotten real picky in my old age as to what I want to shoot and butcher.
It sure is a joy just to set in the woods and watch the wild life do some of the crazyest stuff.
The hunting in the lower this year should be really different too since they banned baiting.
Still caught over 150 in my county alone so far and the fine is $500.00 for the first time. Bow season started Oct. first.
We have an Elk season here in Mich. It is a drawing permit system and I feel to costly for the type of hunt it is. I feel I could go out west and hunt for about the same money.
