Omega - Pulled Charge...
#1
After hunting today, in a torental downpour, I thought it might be interesting to pull the charge and see what it looks like.... but first a little history.
This is an Omega- the gun was last shot on 10/8 - just prior to hunting season. I shot it 4 times to verify POI. The barrel was then swabbed with 3 windex patches, dryed, then a very light coat of Slip 2000 synthetic gun oil was applied to the bore. The taped breech plug was not removed.
On the evening of Oct. 9th the gun was reloaded with 110 grains of T7-2f and a HPH-24 with a .451 Nosler Partition.
Most of October was very warm and dry - can not even say that there were really cool mornings. On the other hand Novemeber has been cool to cold. Today, Nov 7th, was the 3rd rain storm the gun had been through + there was one morning with a very wet snow/rain mixture. The gun has been totally soaked on all of these occasions. After each of these trips, the gun was brought into the house dryed and wipe clean with a treated rag.
After today.. i thought what the heck i am going to push the load out, to cheap to shoot it out - the Nosler costs to much, so when I got home I wiped the gun down blew out the water from the trigger mechanism and the stock with compressed air. I then brought the gun in - removed the breech plug - set the butt pad on the piece of paper you see and pushed the load out.
No doubt about it... that load was dry and would have goneboom just fine. Now I gotta load the whole thing again - get ready for tomarrow morning... and NO! not with the same powder...

My experience mirrors that of Sabotloader. Downloaded them many times after a downpour. If the breech of
my CVA guns was protected the chargestayed dry.In the closed breech Encore the charge wasalways dry.
Have a lot of confidence in the ability of sabotedloads to protect the gun from moisture and have often left my guns loaded for extended periods of time. After araini run some dry patches down the bore followed by a patch moistened with Rem Oil.
My Encore willhuntevery weekend through December 14th.The gunwill stay loaded until i get a deer or hog. One of my guns was loaded in June and was not fired until about the 8th of October.Itfired great and the pointof impactwas where it was supposed to be.

Still looking for that shooter buck.... I went up late this morning in the rain... had to prove to everyone how tough this old man really is... but anyway started up the hill - spotted a little doekinda turning circles in this one spot - could not have been more than 10 yards from me - anyway she turned a couple of time - I froze did not want to get busted - she finally turned and layed down - right out in the open in a driving rain storm. I thought a 'shoot' they are starting to lay downI was hoping they would be moving... Any way when she went down I slipped behind some brush so she could not see me and tried to work away from her without startling her - when I cleared the brush there was another one staring right at me... I could have reached out and touched her... Well there was no hiding from this one - she jumped 180 in the air flipped the tail and ran up through the brush - well that caused 3 more to jump and run... one good shot gun with a open choke I could have got a bee-bee in all of them... NO BUCKS...
Continued to work up the hill over the rockpit by Laird Parkgot on top just started to park on a sheltered stump when a buck jumped up and ran back towards the campground... Really weird rack - it looked like it had 3/4 points on each side but the whole thing just barely cleared the ears...
Walked across the saddle and up into the Potlatch clearcut... and low and behold down on the muddy road - a really nice buck walking along the road headed towards Flynn Butte... If I had the 270 he would have been laying in the mud.
So with all of that I should be back in the same area in the morning and from they are saying in the rain again...
