Default Let's talk about scopes...

I should have my new Omega50 in about three weeks. Choosing the gun was difficult. Now comes the scope, again there is a big variety out there. I tried a budget on the gun and then exceeded that. Maybe $125 or less to start. High rise mounts for a fast shot with the gun sites. Now I'm lost. Tell me what you think, and make a recommendation. Thanks, I'll check back soon....

If you watch Ebay, you may be able to pick up a 4X used Leupold scope. Send it to Leupold to be checked out (free), and put it on your rifle.

I have Leupold's on my 30/06 and on my slug gun. I could not justify spending this much on a scope for the smoke pole. Our season here is only a few days long. I bought a Simmons 3x9 with a 40mm objective and medium height rings.(Get the high ones!)I have a 1/16 of an inch between the scope and the barrel. The optics are not the best when up on 9, but they are as clear as a bell at 6 and lower. I paid about $70 for the set up. I tested it about 3 weeks ago on a doe. It did its job.

You get what you pay for with optics....and in my opinion, they make or break the gun.
Personally I would go ahead and spend a little more now on a scope, you will probably eventually upgrade anyhow. My choices would be either a Leupold VX 2... 2x7x33, or a Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x40. The Nikon is very nice, and less expensive by around $50-75, and amazingly clear for the money.
IMO, Leupolds are probably the best you can get dollar for dollar.
Good luck, sounds like you'll have a nice setup

I have a Leup 3-9 on a Knight 45.Bought it at Wally Wal-Mart,$230.I'm not much of Wal-Mart fan,but this scope been sittin on shelf for a year, marked down twice.

I couldn't ask for better optics.I have 2 Simmons and Bushnell, both good scopes but optics can't compare to the Leup!! Leup is a very pricy scope. As 1950KID mentioned If you can get one used,go for it!
