Default More Newbie questions

Would it be a good idea to put one of those silica gel pacs that absorb moisture into my can of Triple 7 to help keep moisture out?

Is it ok to mix pellets and powder? Say you have a bunch of pellets and you want a80 grn. load could you use one pellet and 30 grns. of powder?

Powder first then pellet?

That's a good question. For instance in flintlocks made to shoot pellets, they suggest a duplex load of loose Goex and then some pellets on top of that. The thought being the Goex when it flashes will ignite the pellets. Yet Hodgdons tells you not to mix powders. So technically you have went against the manufacturers recommendations.

Personally I would not mix loose and then pellets to "make a load." Shoot the pellets off and then shoot the loose powder. Most pelletloads, say for 80 grains is a 50 & 30 grain pellet. You can get close with the two different size pellets but I hate the cost factor there. When you mix the two, I think you will get no consistancy. But then I have never done it. Maybe there are those that have and had good results doing it.

TXFRNTLDER,if you use the dry them out in the oven CAREFULLY keep the temp. down to 200 degrees.
Mostof the time and with most powder normal seal storge is good enough. The exception is the APP and Gold they attract moisture so I keep them in the gun safe next to the dehumidifyer. Lee

With my Triple Se7en powder, I keep the lid on the pound container when not in use, never take it outside into any kind of humidity for any length of time, and I have yet to need them gel packs in the powder. Some of the powder brands actually comes with them. I do not see where they would do any harm in the powder mind you. So if you got them, use them.
