I just got my new ML (stainless Win. APEX) and now need to make a trip to buy powder, bullets and cleaning supplies. I've always used the standard wire brushes and patches to clean a barrel, but my buddy swears by Bore Snakes. Due to how dirty a ML gets, I'm wondering if the snake is a viable choice as I need to get something for the .50 cal. bore.
Can anyone comment?
I also see Cabela's has fancy "Field Cleaning Kits" (see pic) for sale, but I'm wondering how much of that is simply a nice carry pouch rather than items I really need. I already have push rods, patch holders, patches, anti-siezeand small bottles around that could hold alcohol or other solvent for a quick cleaning. So the only thing I don't have compared to the pic below is the brush and carry pouch. If I put my mind to it, I have access to a sewing machine and lots of jeans that are ready to be rags anyway. I could sew up my owncustom denim carry pouch, or buy a small amount of cordura or canvas.
I'm curious to know what others carry on them when ML hunting? I'll do more searches, but what do you not leave the truck without?
Thanks!

I don't clean my muzzleloader while hunting. I use 777 and I've never taken more than two shots on a hunt.
I would guess that a bore snake could work depending on what powder you're using. I know with 777 I get a very rough spot sometimes called th crude ring down near the breech. I would say that a bore snake could not take care of that completely.

I carry a camo clip belt with three pouches - one on each hip and one on my backside. A few places carry them - also army surplus outlets.
