Default RE: Bore Snake for ML cleaning and min. gear for the field?

ORIGINAL: zuren1cs

I just got my new ML (stainless Win. APEX) and now need to make a trip to buy powder, bullets and cleaning supplies. I've always used the standard wire brushes and patches to clean a barrel, but my buddy swears by Bore Snakes. Due to how dirty a ML gets, I'm wondering if the snake is a viable choice as I need to get something for the .50 cal. bore.
I have yet to finda snake that works. Every time I used one on a traditional deeper-grooved ML- then followed up with a 3" solvent-wettenedpatch and bore brush, my patches are streaky dirty. When I used them on a modern shallow grooved inline, the streak was lighter - but still present. That means down-the-road - as the age of the ML progresses, corrosion will very slowly buteventually form.

I carry a camo clip belt with three pouches - one on each hip and one on my backside. A few places carry them - also army surplus outlets.
