Got my new White M97 Ultra today!!!
#1
I got my new white today and Im very pleased. I got all three nipples and the 209 nipple does have the flat front to whoever commented about not getting a crud ring when shooting with it. I also got some tubes of the larger grain powerstar sabots because I have the 320s and these are longer in length. I got some tubes of the powerpunch bullets too. I did the front sight test and sure enough i pushed mine out without almost any pressure. Before i did this I looked at the dovetail compared to the blade. There was space showing and a gap. When I did take it out I turned it around and it fit tighter and the dovetail and blade aligned with no gaps. It is still a little loose but some loctite should take care of it. I read the manual and it originally called for pyrodex P as a propellent. I have almost a whole pound, so I might try it since this rifle design was developed using it. I know it will be dirty and foul, but thats the key to shooting this rifle. It calls for a fouling shot(squib load), so pyrodex should do it. I need to use up the powder anyhow. I dont know which nipple I should try first. What have you other guys been using. I know they were originally set up for #11 caps. I noticed mine was made in september of 2003. Did anyone else notice when theirs was made on the inspecton sheet? Now if I can get to the range.

I perfer the #11 caps for shooting. Since I shoot only loose powder, the #11 caps have never let me down. Also the fowling is not as bad. Overall it sounds like you have some good impressions of the rifle. How do you like the balance of that rifle? I still can not believe how nice that rifle pulls up to the shoulder and sights in...
Keep us posted. I will be interested to see your first outing with the rifle.. I shoot 70 grains, 2 1/16th thick fiber wads, and a 500 grain NEI BullShop. The accuracy is outstanding and the down range power makes you smile. Also the .503 No Excuse shoot real well out of my rifle, but are a little loose in fit..

I shoot 209's most of the time and you do or probably do have a small problem. The installed hammer is a 209 hammer you will need to order a percussion hammer from Doc. The 209 hammer will work but it will cause your#11 to burst into many pieces.
I can not remember the inspection date on mine - think it was 2003 also... but the manual ought to give some idea also - since there was no T7 when the manual was printed...
You will find the squib shot is really not necessary if you are shooting sabots... If you are shooting conicals the sqib might really be important.
Let us know when you get some shooting in...

I have the one all set up for CO. ML elk hunting, peep sights, bullshop 460 bullets, Now this one will be a toy or maybe use here in Wi.. with a 1x scope, maybe play with detachable rings and a Leo.V111 1/5 x5. Being retired and my own range (as you are and have) It can be fun. I shoot about 4 days a week but only about 4 or 5 shots (don't want to get nieghbors upset) at a time. Whites are so easy ,no swabbing easy to clean.well you know.

I like the #11's better than the 209's. Seems to me I get better accuracy using #11 caps. If you get the right size bullets you won't need a fouling shot. I never fire fouling shots with my White's, even when using conicals.

AmericanPioneer, congratulations on the purchase of a fine rifle. I have two of them. One synthetic and one laminate. Since the purchase of these Whites I have either retired or sold all of my other MLers.
