you seldom every read a bad report on the accuracy of a Savage rifle. That should tell you something. That's a great load and it sounds like you have a real shooter on your hands. Congratulations ona great rifle...

Great gun Mike for blackpowder hunting. They're built stong as an ox.
Just curious.. since I've never held or assembled one.
Do you need to keep changing - or even use those vent liners in that Savagewithout the use of centerfire smokeless powder? That's an expensive ordeal for folks like me that shoot multiple jugs of powder every year-if the liners are still necessary for any blackpowder use in that rifle.

triple se7en - I dont know if you could leave the liner out, but the manual says that it deflects the gases/explosion away rather than backwards(at the shooter)in case of failure. It says that they need replaced after @200 shots. They include two extras plus the one in the rifle when you buy it, that would give you 600 shots give or take. I dont have a clue as to what the replacements will cost[

Triple,
Yes the ventliners are always neccesary, however the ventliner cost is really a non-issue even for hardcore shooters. While the Savage supplied ventliners have a decent shot life, most knowledgeable owners eventully replace the factory supplied ventliners with those purchased through Randy Wakeman. The cost is 22$ for 4 delivered. Most shooters have found that these ventliners,( hardened steel alloy, RC of 38-43), last a minimum of three to four times longer than those suppliedby the factory. Assuming a 500 shot life for these ventliners that would result in a cost of less than .01c per shot.
For anyone interested in Randys ventliners....Instead of posting a link here to Randys site, I will happy forward the adress to anyone who requests it via PM.
