Knight Disc Rifles

Cayugad, you have hit on something that has crossed my mind several times . . . owning a chronograph may be as much of a curse as a blessing. If you think you're getting 1800 and the actual speed comes up 1712, you feel cheated and immediately want to up the charge. A lot of us might be better off without them.

I did some checking and as you said, MidSouth Shooters Supply has 100 of the orange discs for $6.39 . I figure if you can reload these three to four times, a couple packs should last me a years worth of shooting....
They also had some good prices on Knight Red Hot sabots. I think I might invest in some of them also but I just bought a large 20 or 30 count of the Barnes Expanders and the Barnes 454 Casull so I have plenty to shoot for now.

cayuqad,
I upgraded/converted my disc to the super disc(red) few years back. The ONLY differance is the conversion makes it all water proof. The red IMO is a bit easier to load and eject in the field, particularly at dark.
2 years ago I discovered while testing some new bullets I had run out of red discs. Its now 4-5 days before season starts. I couldn't find anybody that had the reds! I had to reuse/reload some old ones laying around. My only suggestion is - don't do it! It can be done but it is a royal pain in the Buttocks to press out old cap and press in new one. I never tryed to reload the orange ones. I would venture to say you might have same problem?
I've always wanted to try BP in my .45 disc but APP has just about spoiled me. I'm sorta ashamed to admit I haven't used any BP in 3 yrs. I'd be interested in the results of your 100gr BP load. I've used up to 130gr of ff APP with no loss of accuracy from any given bullet. However the 2nd and 3rd load do require a hydraulic press [>:]
Good Luck

bigcountry,
How do you like that new power stream breech plug. What if any are the benifits. Seems like it might cut down on crud ring problems for the 777 users? Wonder if it would work in my older .45 super disc.

Last winter I was shooting Pinnacle 3f in my Wolverine II. Pinnacle is of course made by American Pioneer Powder. I was very impressed with that powder. If APP works as well, I might pick up a pound of that also. I am going to be shooting Goex 2f & 3f through it to see how well it behaves as soon as the orange discs get here.
From talking with the tech at Knight Rifle I was given the impression that the orange discs are actully very water resistant in their own right. Granted in their video you see the fellow fall in the pond then stand up dump the water out, and shoot the rifle. That was with the red disc. I will see how well I like the orange discs.
I am excited about shooting the rifle.

Cayugad, the video that came with my Wolverine, they drop it in a pond while
hunting and pick it up and dump the water out of the barrel and shoot it.
I have never had any problems with mine.

Rebel Hog.. yep, that's the video. He pulls that rifle up out of being under the water and shoots at that target. Very impressive to say the least. Why, just last winter, I purposely made myself fall in the creek while deerhunting, putting the rifle under the water and getting soaked to the waist, just to see if I could match the same kind of thing with a sidelock smoothbore I was carrying. You bet I did... By the way, my sidelock did fire!!
Actually the video that came with the disc rifle is much better then the oldvideo I got with my other Knight riflebecause they have a bunch of hunting adventures after they teach you about the rifle. That must be to motivate you to get off the couch and go shoot the thing. Believe me, if I had gotten my hands on some of them orange primer holders we would have made smoke that afternoon.

AJ, the benefits I see, is I couldn't get good accuracy with loose 777 over 90gr. But with it I get great accuracy up to 120-130gr loose 777. Also I don't get the crud ring. The bad of it is you have to take it out about 5 or so shots thru it cause all the residue left starts displacing your area down below the stem and you can't seat to the proof mark on your rod. First time I used it, I shot 15 shots with no problem but noticed my accuracy dropping off. I was using 3 50gr 777 pellets with good accuracy, but wanted to get away from pellets.

Well Knight was good as their word. That is customer service. I can not say enough good things about how Knight Rifle Company treats you when you call them. They really make you feel special. They sent some orange disc came in the mail along with the C-tool for taking the bolt apart. How often do you guys actually break the bolt down like in the video? Every time?
So I decided all the work could stop today and we would shoot the rifle instead. Got the target all taped back together and walked outside and it was raining..[

A fellow just can't get a break. So we decided to work today and play tomorrow....
I also sat down and ordered a couple packs of the orange discs and a mess of bullets. You can never have too many around the house to shoot. Hunting season is coming fact. Last weekend we built a couple more tree stands, one spot has to be a hot one, and now we need to get the rifles tuned up for the early doe season.
