For some reason I lost all of the emails from last night that were links to posts!!!

I'd score that spike at about 22.

I was going ot go out tonight but I'm still trying to shake a cold and don't feel like spooking every deer within a half mile with my cough. Tomorrow morning I'm going out though. Back to the oaks.

Dave how'd it go?

Fawn With Spots

Compared to Bambi

Little buck with a growth on leg

I think maybe the doe with the little fawn is young and was bred in December last year. I put a bigger button buck fawn and a nice doe for comparison, and there is a bigger doe/fawn that I also see. That little buck has a growth on the leg.

Sometimes I cheat and put a little corn out, so I have pics of squirrels, rabbits, birds, coons, opossums, turkeys, you name it. It's a wildview with a slow trigger so you almost have to. and it has a video mode which is low quality but still kind of cool.

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

Hey dave i tried to save it as a .gif but it will only save as a .bmp or a .png do you think if you emailed it to me as a .gif that it would work my computers a peice of crap but im still tryingto get it to work

Hey Badger i like the pics and dont worry i cheat and put apples in front of my camera

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

Badger are you gonna shoot that buck in the pics if he comes by? he looks like he'll go about 60 which isnt that bad

Cool pics badger....check out the hooves on that 8 point, they look really long and weird.

Nothing at all. I'm staying out of the oaks until the rut hits now. There are a bunch of other area I want to check and I'm going with the 2 times per place method. Sorry guys.

cool pictures Jarrod. Hopefully that buck presents itself to you.

Hey guys.. I'm back from Vacation.. Gonna check my cameras tomorrow and plan on having something to show you.. One more week for me.. Can't wait..

I hit the BIG Cabelas store in Rogers MN, this weekend.. It was sweet.. Bought a few things, most important, a Hunters Safety System.. Figure its money well spent..

lets hope that you get something big on the cameras mathewsboy

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

I wonder why it won't save as .gif by default if you right click>save image as:

Anyway those hooves are just covered in mud. What do you think the thing on the back leg is? I would pass it up. Sadly, it's the only buck I have seen this year so far. They'll come though.
And I was surprised that the fawn still had spots. I saw it this morning too.

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

The .gif issue has me perplexed. I know that my avatar is a .gif. My latest issue now is everytime I come onto this siteI have to login. Even if opening an email from one of you guys.

That leg looks like he broke it or was attacked by something. It's hard to say. Possibly could have some sort of insct infestation too.

fun2hunt 09-24-2007 07:44 AM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

Thanks for the pics Jerrod. The doe with fawn with no spots looks like a good doe to put in the freezer. Dave I know what you mean about having to log in, I'm not sure why we are having to do that. Did you see any does or any deer while you were out? You wrote "nothing" wasn't sure if you meant nothing worth shooting or nothing at all.

Matthews, I look forward to those pics.

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

Mike,

I only saw deer on my drive in. Again, in my area #1 spot thatI haven't hunted yet. However, that's where I'll be this week and weekend.I think that the full moon had the deer feeding in there during the night and I'm going to try out what the experts say. Leave the food masts alone until the rut if you do not see the deer there now. There are tracks all over the place in there though. I'm also going to try the swamp that is about 400 yds away from where I'm hunting now.

fun2hunt 09-24-2007 09:30 AM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

Sounds like a smart plan. They may not be all over the acorns yet if there is still good food in the fields. Another couple of weeks that will change. Good move to get out of there I think so you don't scare them off for later. Season is still young andat least you were able to enjoy the outdoors and knowing they are not there yet is valuable planning info.

davepjr71 09-24-2007 10:48 AM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

This is the first year in a while where I'm going to try and follow the rules. Especially with a lot of land to hunt. It makes no sense to sit in there day after day hoping they show up when I'm there. i mind as well move and try to intercept them. I figure they are feeding at night and then heading into the swamp for the day. Therefore, I plan on intercepting them. The only negative part is I'm moving in the opposite direction of the buck i saw. But I figure there has to be other bucks in the area and with the warm weather they have to be around the water.

fun2hunt 09-24-2007 12:51 PM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

I think you have a higher chance of intercepting one when you have a lot of land to use than pinpointing a buck. If you can find a place that squeezes their travel into bow range between the bedding and feeding areas than I think that is a great place to start.

I just found out my day at my friends lease may be on the 20th instead of the 13th. I'm kind of glad in a way because the 3rd weekend in Oct is usually when the pre-rut starts to kick-in here and the bucks start to be more receptive to calling and rattling. Also that is usually when the weather starts to turn cool. Also the leaves will be at their peak and it will be perfect. I called my first buck with a bow in on Oct 22nd in 2005 so the 20th should be a good time to be out there. I have to wait one more week but it may make the difference with the bucks.

Well guys.. This is all I have so far, as far as bucks go.. Hopefully I'll see some bigger ones soon..

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

He's a big bodied buck. Do you think he's 3.5 years old?

badger109 09-24-2007 09:46 PM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

What's up with the cookies?

That's definately a 2.5 year old.

Where I hunt it's a muddy swampy little parcel along a creek. It's mostly medium ash trees with a layer of smaller trees and bushes. As it turns out, my stand is in a beding area. These does that I always see wander around along the creek in the woods during the day, eating and laying down. I've picked out a new spot in a little area of hardwoods where I can see both ponds and where they cross. I wish I knew more about the adjacent properties though.

Nothing to report guy's.I hung a stand on Sunday in a promising spot. The property owner where I park to access this piece (An older French woman) says there is a deer in there with a lot of horns. It was funny to hear with her accent.Good to hear but funny!
I will be hitting the woods hard the next two weekends, hanging a couple of more stands and looking for buck sign.I hope the weather turns colder soon!

That is good news to hear scot with any accent. I wonder how many points he has.I bet thatwas fun to hear her say that.

Alright men, it's Wed again. What are your hunting set ups for this weekend?

davepjr71 09-26-2007 10:43 AM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

I'll be hunting near a swamp Friday afternoon and then in the first area I scouted that i haven't hunted yet. Figure that the deer have to be bedding down in there during the day to escape the heat.

I hand washed my HSS vest and was amazed at how much stuff came out after only 3 uses.

fun2hunt 09-26-2007 12:28 PM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

Dave if they are bedding there during the day you may be able to find a good staging area for the bucks between the bedding and food source for the evening hunt. Might be a good place for an ambush if you can find a place that narrows and they have to cross ontheir way to their evening feeding.

davepjr71 09-26-2007 12:34 PM

RE: 19-Official Team Quiet Arrow Thread

That's my game plan. i don't plan on going into the swamp. just need to find their exit points. A good funnel would be nice.
