RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Last day soccer this morning we played great. One of the parents called one of our players a moose. He is a rather large 1st grader. I ask him how adult hewasfor calling a 6 year old a name. All 6' 6'' of him got out of his chair, LMAO. I look at my mother and said my will is all good[8D] Cooler heads prevailed, I got the league the banned smoking at the fields so I am not the most popular guy.
Off to the woods boys and gal |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Im headed out soon as well.. Good luck all...

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
I'm out in a few.....but I have a terrible West wind. My west wind spots are too hot to get into (I trapsed through them earlier this week, pretty bad.
I guess I'll sit in a fringe stand and hope. It's nice and cool, though.....so I know it'll be a wonderful sit......deer or no deer. Good luck to all. Jeff |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Well + 20'' and we might have been in business tonight.
7 deer around me, 3 does 4 bucks. Bucks were 1.5 6 1.5 8 1.5 8 2.5(I think) 9 120'' was my guess. He is not wider than his ears yet. I put him at 220 lbs on the hoof. 3 does were out for about an hour. The big 9 pushedone a bit(which is why I suspect 2.5). Two little 8's spared for a bit also. Back at it in the morning;) |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
I think I had a pretty nice buck walk past me before it was light enough to shoot. i am about 100 yards off of a picked corn field where 3 trails come together. I hear what I think is a deer walking behind me well befor daylight. Too early for squirels. He walks around a while maybe 50 yards back. Then I can hear him crunching on acorns. Still dark, and he is moving slowly towards my shooting lane. I can see a dark blob moving thru the woods, so I find it in my binocs. Looks like a big body with a swelled neck and I think I saw antlers. He passed thru my lane at 35 yards about 15 munutes before good shooting light. Not positive ,but I believe he might have been a shooter, just a little bit too early. That was it for the morning. Except for the 1,000,000 squirels shelling Hickory nuts and the 2,000,000 chip monks chirping all around. For being the smallest things in the woods, they can sure make a lot of noise.[:@]
Then in the afternoonI tried a different spot and had 2 1.5 year olds, a 6 point and an 8 point, and a 120 or so 8 point2.5 year old pass at 25 yards. I am waiting for at least a 130" deer this year. At least fora while yet. All in all a pretty good day. The weather was great. 50* and cloudy in the morning and cloudy all day 60* in the evening. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
I didnt see a deer all day. But Im back at it tomorrow...
|
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Eating some lunch then back out.
3 this morning, little 4 point, button buck and a yearly doe. She bedded down by me. I was happy to see her. Now get in heat my little honey:D |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
I went to a spot back behind the house I hadn't hunted yet. It was a perfect wind for this setup. Taking my scent out over the 50 foot dropoff to the creek. It is an oak ridge above the creek back there. On the way in I see lots of fresh dropping and a couple of rubs. I am pumped and ready for action. But no deer tonight. I did find out I need to clear my shooting lanes out again. I hadn't gotten around to clearing this stand yet.
A view over the cliff, where my scent was headed. ![]() To my left where the oaks are, and I need to retrim my lanes. ![]() Behind me and right, the thick stuff, bedding area. ![]() |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Here is a view of my stand from yesterday, wher I saw the buck before daylight. I am setup on aditch with trails coming from a picked corn field.
This is the lane he crossed. Just in front of the last big oak in the pic. ![]() A view up the ditch. You can see some of the trails. ![]() Across the ditch, more trails. ![]() And behind me to the big woods. ![]() I have killed a few good deer herebefore. And I will hunt this spot again. None of them knew I was there. |

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
John great picks and thx for sharing.
Well it was a great weekend, here are the stats 4 does 5 1.5 bucks 1 2.5 9 point I did not pass on the 9, I decide 50 yds out through the bino he was not what I am looking for. I chose not to try and shoot him, which is way different than a pass IMO. This brings my total to 10 different bucks so far. 8 1.5 1 2.5 1 3.5 Sill no contact with the big toads, next week I am in the stand all day!!! |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Hey guys, just checking in. I had a great weekend of hunting with my brother. He passed up 16 different bucks in 5 hunts with his rifle. I bowhunted and had 4 different bucks right under my stands over the weekend. One really nice 5x5 that I finally saw again from this summer. Hes a 3.5 year old that would score in the mid 130's gross. I didnt see any of my big boys. I heard a TOTAL of 5 rifle shots all weekend. Which was absurd.. the deer and elk were not moving in the open..only in the bedding areas that we were hunting...
Rob also saw the 5x5 and is kicking himself for not shooting him... but he didnt because he said he didnt want to ruin my bowhunt for the 4x5 ( I was sitting about 300 yards away ) with a gun shot ...he said if it would have been a bigger buck he would have drilled him.. LOL My Landowner jumped all over the tresspassing issue, got more signs that specifically say.. NO HUNTING OR TRESSPASSING and they made phone calls. They also made it clear that the next step would be to prosecute. So basically they wanted to warn them this one time. The word is out and I didnt see a soul in my once great area.. We saw half of the bucks above back in there, so it was a welcomed sign that the deer are getting comfortable again. I will be hunting tonight. Troy |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
BTW Troy I booted off two Tresspassers on Sunday[:@] I smelled them smoking from my stand, right in my sancturary that I have to been in since March:eek:.
It got a little verbal when one smarted off to me. I must of struck a nerver when I ask him how much his double wide cost[8D] I called the DNR and gave them thereMC number. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
John and Gary,
Sounds like the action is heating up in your parts. If our team weren't a bunch of die-hard, picky bowhunters, we would be on the board (espeically HuntmUp with 150"). :D Trust me, I'm not urging or expecting you guys to take smaller deer, just that having a bunch of trophy hunters might be giving us a slow start. Troy, I'm glad you got some resolution. Probably not as much as you were hoping for the bastards, but if it resolves the problem then that is probably good enough. I'm going tomorrow night (raining with cold (relative here) front today), and am hitting it hard this weekend. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
We have some really cool weather coming by Wed. I can hunt every evening this week and will through the weekend ... I am tempted to do an all day sit this weekend just to see if the big boys are up andmoving only during mid day..
The absence of rifle shots this weekend blew my mind. I usually count dozens on opening weekend of elk.. The critters we were hunting were right in their beds as we watched several bucks bed down via binocs and the naked eye.. one bachelor group bedded 70 yards from my stand all day and got up that evening and fed by me again once I came back in..I got some nice photos too of a few younger bucks standing under a stand I could see but wasnt in.. I love my new camera...I will get some photos downloaded tonight after hunting.. Troy |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Dozens? Hah. Troy, you really need to come out here just once, just to see what it's like. You'd DIE.
3 years ago, I was out for the PA rifle opener in Greene County, sitting with my pap before he hung up the hunting boots. I heard over 400 shots before noon. It's a holocaust. ...and that's with the constant buzz of traffic drowning out the background noise. If it was truly quiet, you'd probably hear 1000. When I'm hunting the northern PA hardwoods, I usually only hear about 100 shots through the first day. It's kinda peaceful up there. |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Honest to God the neighbor shot at 1 buck 16 + times last year[&:] and still did not recover it
|
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
I know, I know guys.. I dont here 100's of shots like some of you do back east.. Honestly I wouldnt or couldnt take it there, I would move.... but 50 in day ( I should say in a sit 4-5 hours)is enough for me..thats about the most I ever heard.
16 x at one deer...how in the heck can a guy shoot 16 times..you'd have to be using an SKS.. lol I havent really been talking much about my hunts lately because I am sorta of sick I guess of reporting on what I didnt kill.. but I will say this guys.. I have had some very exciting up close encounters with bulls, cows and whitetails as of last thursday... I think the whole TRESSPASSING issue is in the end gonna be much for the better. Finally bucks started moving in there again.. it was nice to see even though they were the young ones.. I think Rob and I saw at least 11 different bucks..in that one day...that was nice..of course I am talking with Binocs too... I think tonight could be a good one.. we have a storm moving in tomorrow..the movement should be decent. I havent hunted for ole Stretch in a good two weeks.. I am gonna head in there tonight..man would I love to put the checkmateto him.. Oh....I found another really nice mid 140 class, wide racked 4x5 that looks really hvy.. I am gonna spend some time in there too. Hes using a ridge I have an old stand on that I havent even hunted yet this season.. Oh one last thing, I have found 4 more sheds too.. since Sept 1 .. up to 97 or 98now for the year.. ;) |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
16 x at one deer...how in the heck can a guy shoot 16 times..you'd have to be using an SKS.. lol Kid shoots 4 times, one hits it in the guts. Deer heads across the river to bed down in our CRP. They come over, My dad, Uncle and me go to help. 5 guys 4 with guns, one to make smart arse comments(me) We now have 4 shots at this deer. We track the deer to CRP, it gets up and hauls arse acorss the field to big woods. Uncle shootsonce5 Neighbor Kid shootstwice 6 &7 Neighbor shoot 3 times 8 & 9 & 10 1 smart arse comment by me "I guess I should have brought by bow, because all you chumps missed" Now 4 guys with weapons want to press on, 1 guy without says let the deer lay. He is in the big woods lets not push him. They choose to push on. Second smart arse comment "I hope this deer is a good swimmer" We get to the woods and the weapons guys fan out, I laugh to my self. As I thought we get near the bank deer jumps in, now this is where it gets fun. All 4 guys shoot as the deer is running up the bank. Dad twice 11 & 12 Uncle once 13 neighbor once 14 kid twice 15 & 16 All miss, I laugh out loud this time and point out to them the just shot the living hell out Mr. Smiths bank and none of you have permission to hunt. I also tell them next time I will just shoot the damn deer with my bow, since you clowns can not get it done:D Deer found dead in Mr Smith corn field 3 days later:eek: |
RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Here's what I'm gonna do......
I'm going into my good morning spot.....ONE more time....with the intention of taking a doe. I'm done taking them in my honey hole. It's just too much of an intrusion. If I don't get to the magic number hunting my fringes from here on out.....I just don't get there. I'm ready to hunt like I WANT to a little. "Pass" on a doe.....what a novel idea. I won't take another one from my good spots. I think it's all gonna work out, in the end.;) |

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread
Germ, if it weren't sad it would be funny. I've known a few "shoot them till they stop moving" shotgun
hunters. [&:] You hear 6 shots and your like what the hell, and out they come with one destroyed doe. Where I hunt it is normal to have 25-40 shots within a couple miles on a big gun day. But one thing I really don't like is we are 2-3 miles from some apparently very good duck hunting and on some days at daybreak and sunset it sounds like a battle. Troy, I personally like the play by play. You want boring - go read my play by play. [&:] I don't have (1) the experience you do, (2) am not hunting trophy caliber deer, and (3) don't have any experience with your terrain and style of hunting. Kenny, your hunting season sounds about like mine so far. Better weather and more deer are on the way. GMMAT, I think you've fulfilled your oath to the does. I believe they would be willing to accept your offer of a temporary truce. [8D] John, cool setup. Perfect cover in that tree too. Do you water your foodplot with sprinklers and Miracle-Gro, and walk around with spiked shoes? :D |
