I am headed to IL in the morning. Gonna hunt the morning for sure, and check my camera and see if any acorns are falling.
Not sure if I will hunt the evening, supposed to be 92* tomorrow. WAAAAAAY TOOOOO HOTTTTTTT![:@]But it has been a couple of weeks since I have been there and all of the corn is out now, so things have changed a lot. Gonna see what it all looks like.

Did not see a thing, LOL

Had the same experience this morning in IL. Not a single deer sighted. But I did see 7 on the drive there alongside the roads. They were moving, just not after the sun came up. I talked to my Taxi buddy that lives down the road from where I hunt. He has been hunting the Pike, Calhoun County border line this week and has seen no deer on 3 sits. That is unheard of for that area. IT IS LOADED WITH DEER!! they just are not moving during the day in this heat.[:@]

Cold front coming this Tuesday night. I sure hope that helps things out, and gets rid of this heat for good.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Hey guys,

Had a pretty good weekend hunting. Hunted yesterday and this morning. It was so hot and
we were worried about messing up our new stands so we decided against hunting this p.m.

First morning kicked up a few deer on the way to my stand, had a few moving under me right
before daybreak, then as soon as first light = absolute silence. Guy hunting with me about
300 yards away had a nice doe under him early in the morning.

Yesterday afternoon I was a little frustrated. As you guys know I don't have a deer with my bow.
I missed last year (my first year trying), one other deer was out of range, and I switched to gun for
most of last season. Well, we are the only zone out of 8 where you couldn't take a doe for first 2
weeks of October. I had an absolute chip shot (7 yards broadside) on a nice doe, and not only that
I saw her well before she saw me and she walked perfectly broadside into 2 of my shooting lanes after
being behind thick cover. It doesn't get any easier than that. [:@] She was downwind (that wasn't
the direction I was hunting especially since it was bucks only), and she smelled something was
wrong, had her nose in the air, and even walked down my trail to about 7 yards from me. I won
the close quarters staring contest (for once) thanks to being seated, having some low cover,
and my ASAT 3D on. After about ten minutes of her curiosity and browsing I got bailed out by a
crash from a squirrel about 50 yards away. It was a cool intense experience having a mature deer
milling around that close (saw 3 fawns as well but farther away). Usually it's always doe season
and I either don't let a mature doe hang around (unless it's the rut), get busted by an old wary
doe, or they are just moving quickly by. It was a confidence booster, especially after being blown on Monday.

Also was pumped about the new cams, got 4 different 7-8 points on camera (a pair on 2 different cams),
the pics were from the last 2-3 weeks, one group was still a bachelor pair and had some velvet!
Finally, other than night pics 95% of the buck picks were taken between 12:00 and 2:30 p.m. -
go figure = think they have hunters figured out? :D If I can get the pics emailed to me will post.

That and LSU made my weekend. What a game. Hey Troy, even ND made something happen. :D

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

I have seen 3 different bucks in 20 sits, so far.....and had all of them in bow range at one time or another. Just not interested. I don't see the point. I have 2 buck tags for my woods.....and 1 for PA. I'll be in PA on the 25th, 27th and 28th (@ Rob/PA's place), hunting. Rob told me to shoot anything I want.....but I won't shoot a juvenille deer, anywhere. If I think it's 2.5....and it's a big bodied deer.....I might pull the trigger (and I understand 2.5 is still juvenille in many people's eyes). There "might" be three 2.5yr olds in my woods (that I know about) that I might be interested in. Otherwise.....I'll eat my tags. I'm committed to NOT shooting a buck for the sake of saying "I got my buck".

Lot of season left, though.....and I'm having a good time.

Good uck to all.

I think we tied some record from 1935 or something.

-checking in and getting caught up on everyones outtings...sounds like everyone is battling the heat; here its cold and rainy. 45-55 ish..

All hell will break loose come Wed. Open of rifle season for two months. Anyweapons season actually. Most will be rifle hunting though.

I'm looking forward to getting back to hunting again, but actually got a lot done around my place getting ready for winter this past week of no hunting.

Good luck this week guys, I'll be back after the whitetails Wed evening.

Gonna give it a shot tomorrow afternoon after work. It has nothing to do with it being cooler (maybe 3
degrees), instead the wife has help with babysitting from her mom. :D

I sort of feel like you a month ago Germ, I'm going to the petting zoo on Saturday morning. :D
That will earn me rights to hunt all weekend the next weekend. Will be hunting those bucks we got
on cam plus my good spot I scouted and left unhunted. Hope to post cam pics soon if my dad can
ever figure out email attachments.

No luck this evening. The heat is killing us. But like everyone else has said, its gonna cool down soon. I will be back out Wednesday evening. Allright, here's some cam pics from Moultrie I-40 (there are more, but these are best).
Would appreciate guesses on scores:

First two were taken on a food plot/clearing in the woods coming to a mineral lick (same bachelor group):

Here's one from 8 acres (with white oaks) bordering some CRP land (about 1 mile away as crow flies). You can see the spill bank for the canal rising up in the background and the saddle in the background:

Here's just a nice pic of some spotted fawns from same mineral lick with the bachelors:

I talked to huntm up today via pm. He just got home from a huntin trip and leaves again on Friday, for the rest of the month. He PASSED on a 150 buck on the first day of the hunt, because he has consistantly seen 4 bucks better than 170 on this farm while scouting. Then the heat came and shut things down.

I gave him my cell# and e-mail. He is gonna let us know if he scores. I got his e-mail too.

I didn't get out tonight, it was still 84* when I got home. So I got the grass cut and fixed a screen door that had a bad roller. getting set for the weekend.Gonna make it out tomorrow for sure. It is supposed to be in the 70's. I can handle that!!:)

Glad to hear you are going to be back hunting Troy.

I hope it cools down for the rest of the team too. It will be a welcome relief.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Ok I will be hunting at the end of the small field where it narrows down. North is top(up) on this map.

Wind will be out of the west. The deer will be bedded down NE of my location and W of me in the front field(corn) next to the house. The field to my East(biggest one) is CRP, the one to the south and narrows down is beans. We call this 3/4 field. I have white oaks to my west in the ditch as I call it. Just to the south is were i killed 2nd most deer on the farm. The tree died this year so I moved.

This spot I call the Rock(big rock near the stand) is like a triangle shape ridge. It is the high point with 3 lower sides to the East, West, and North. South is where it meets the 3/4 bean field(narrow part) and the fence row you see.

Any questions?

Gary,

Looks like a plan to me. Nice piece of earth. Is that a river snaking across the North and East?

Is that river (we call it a Bayou) the one from the "On the River" with Germ segments and behind
you where you killed the Big Doe?

Well what a crappy night:D

Perfect wind
Perfect weather
Perfect stand, NOT

I saw one Racoon, lOL I can see the three back fields from this stand. Not one deer eating beans or Acorns. So where the flip are they:D

I did see 4 nice rubs on the way in.

They were in my neighborhood chowing on acorns. I had 9 does and fawns in the yard I was hunting tonight. A doe and 2 fawns were in range but never gave me that perfect shot I need in the Subdivision. Always moving or quartering to me.[:@]

Tho most of the activity was on the other side of the property. I will be in a tree over there next time. It really felt great with the cool temps tonight too. 52* here right now .

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Hunting is a fickle mistress, eh Gary? All that anticipation - hell, I've been practicing since April and haven't shot one live critter - I got the itch bad.

I couldn't go tonite b/c the guy whose land I was hunting had a big family emergency.
Murphy's Law: I've made 8 sits since Oct. 1st all on 90 degree + days and now that the
weather is great I'm SOL for the next 5 or 6 days. :D

Heading back to the family place next weekend (10/20). Going to hunt that spot in my second to last picture. Got the stand set up real well for bow - 3 nice shooting lanes for most directions he chooses coming from that saddle. It has an auxiliary trail cut from a main road, which is usually favorable with
the wind and keeps me from walking down the trail.

Gonna also try to put that climber in the back on that spot I always talk about. Can't wait. Also, my dad is pretty sure he kicked up that big buck I saw last year (nice 7-8) about where I thought he was bedding. We have a new stand close to there (for this reason), and I think I figured out a way to sneak in. This early in the season, if you are close to the dominant buck's bedding area is there anything you might do to try to draw him out? It's too early for sex scents, so I was thinking about a challenge to his turf. Gary, you think I should just be as quiet as possible, right? :D

I know I'm rambling, but I'm antsy.

Yep LB, LOL

Hunting farm tracks I have leanred one thing, it's feast or nothing. Tonight not a deer on the farm[:@] The Corn in front is killing me. It always done, I have never been good early season with the corn in front of the farm. Being farm runs West to East I can not hunt them in front unless i get a NE or SE wind. If I hunt them in front they get behind me and the ball game is up.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

OK, if the deer do the same thingtomorrow that they did last night, I should have me a doe in the freezer. Last night was the first time I hunted that property so I set up on the most acorns. But most of the deer came out on the other side of the property and headed towards the county park that joins our subdivision.(600 acres of no hunting, deer paradise)I am going to be in position to get a shot if they come out there again.

And who knows, there might be a buck come out there too.

Then I think I am going to give IL another try on Saturday. The temps will be much better than last week.

The weather finally cooled down here but I've been working til 2AM all week[:@] and just couldn't drag myself out of bed. I wrapped that project up last night so I should get off work normal time and plan to be in a tree Saturday and Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon. Wife's class reunion is Saturday night:eek:. Small price to pay for hunting the rest of the weekend though:D Good luck everyone. Hopefully we'll get on the board soon !

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

I took my fifth doe of the year, this morning. If things go well....I'll start being able to hunt differently in the future (this season). I have stayed out of the best spot for all but one sit, this year. I'm saving it for November.....from about the 10th, on. I'm not going in there to shoot a doe....let's just say.;) It'll have to be perfect for me to get in there, though.

I'm sorry I'm not much help, right now. I've been targeting these doe groups all season....and my mind isn't on bucks, right now. I don't know whether it would do any good, though. I didn't see any good numbers of bucks, last year, until after Nov. 10th, or so. They'll start looking for these does, soon.....and I'll be where they're looking.I'll do my best to come through.

I hope everyone is having a better year than I've had. Numbers don't mean everything. I'm learning lessons left and right.

LebeauHunter 10-12-2007 12:53 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

GMMAT,

Numbers don't mean anything, but they are nice. I'm a pretty frustrated deer hunter right now, but
I will spare you guys my pathetic history of deer hunting. [:'(]

Sounds like you are sticking to your goal and getting back on track. If there are 15 less does (counting
the farmer/road) come the rut, it should be a more intense one. I know your property is deer saturated,
but that is going to have to have an effect. I don't buy those other guys saying it will take years to
have an effect - it doesn't appear that you hunt a huge amount of acreage, nor that it is surrounded by
lots of deer habitat. I bet your bucks are going to be saying, "Where dey at?" That's when they
will start moving your way. :D

Good luck guys. Won't be hunting this weekend even though weather is great and everybody is seeing deer. [:@]

Well the deer didn't do the same thing as they did Wednesday night. Apparently that property isn't the Friday night hangout. I saw 9 deer there on Wednesday and not a single one tonight. Go Figure[&:].

I am going over to IL tomorrow for the whole day this time. I heard the guy who lives on the farm shot a doe last week. And his girlfriend saw a monster last Sunday morning. I am hoping a monster walks by me in the morning.
