haha ...I am trying guys..themoonphase had the critters crawling everywhere after dark last week.. its getting better now...the good news is..if I just wait until the middle of next week... My pole barn will be done! I will have a nice place to hang critters.. I am ordering a hoist today.. its been ratchet hoists my entire life..I am stepping up to a 880 lb electric hoist... I cant wait.. The framing is done, the trusses are on...etc.. Gonna build a little cooler room to for hanging quartered elk and deer.. I am excited..

Troy, thanks for the update. I bet you get that 4x5.

It's funny, your extra animal sightings are elk and bears, while mine are opossum, armadillo, squirrel and racoon. [8D]

About the only update I will have for the next month will be game cam pics. [:@]

Ok guys and ladies (lady?) I am back for a couple of days... Had a great hunt, I personally didn't kill a caribou gave my tag to one of your camera guys instead. And he scored his first one!!!! Very happy for him. But back to to deer hunting! This is what I have lined up. Ohio opener for 3 days I will be happy with a 150's. Than to Missouri (should be able to get into a 160/170 class there), than back to home where I have pictures everyday of four 120-140 class deer. Should be exciting. Seeing them and killing them is a completely different story so we will see. What about you guys? What do you have planned?

Geeeeez Troy, we were gonna send out a search party for you pretty soon. I sure hope you can close the distance on that big 4 X 5. Man that would be fun to see deer, bear and elk all on the same sit in a stand. What kind of temps. are you hunting in right now?

Just got my ASAT blind today. It is raining outside so I might have to set it up in the basement tonight. Gonna give that a try some this year.

Well my boss may have changed my plans a little. We have to work some overtime. I gotta stay an extre 4 hours 2 nights a week and 2 hours on another night. So I won't be on here as much either. Why does this always seem to happen just when I want to start hunting? Don't know how long this will last, hopefully just a couple weeks. We have a couple of machines that are broken down. And we are going to need them for a new job coming up. So we have to get them running again. I had planned on hunting most nights after work once the season starts on the 15th here in MO. Got some descent bucks around here 120-140 and there might be a few surprises thrown in too. Then when IL starts on Oct. 1, I usually spend one day of the weekend up there and maybe both if things look real promising. Some real nice bucks running around up there. One might push 170, I just got a quick look at him a couple weeks ago. I think he is a big 10 pt with split tines or some stickers.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Hey guys just walked in the door from this evenings hunt. Elk elk elk.... walking down the ridge out in front of me just at dark about 10-15 of them... I couldnt make out any antlers, I hit my cow call a couple times just to see if a bull would answer and nothing did..

Two small bucks this evening walked down and out in front of me about 40-50 yards.. they looked like twins.. 4x4s...2.5 year olds.. No bears this evening but lots of bear sign in and around my hike into my stand ...theres an orchard down the mountain about 1/4 of a mile, I am cutting the bucks off on their way down to that orchard and then a water hole....they arent hitting the orchard area until well after dark.

I didnt get to hunt the 4x5 tonight, I got home a tad too late and didnt want to chance it... still was a great evening to be out and I got so see some critters... The stand I hunted tonightis one I save for a day like this...I call it my never know stand..cause its in a nice spot where ya never know what may come down off that ridge...;)

HUNT.... sounds like you have some GREAT areas to hunt... best of luck and put one down!

Jeff, good luck bud, like I said, I still think you'll be the first to enter a buck for Chaos..

John... well I dont see them all at once very often but the other day I got lucky and saw elk, deer and two bears...in one spot.. thats glassing them ....they didnt all walk under me if that was what you were thinking...

I haven't had this many elk around in the first 7 day of a hunting season... I am not even trying to hunt the elk, I wish they would leave me and my whitetails alone..[:@]:D

The other day Rob had a young 4x4 out in front of one of mystands and he was feeding and he kept looking in the brush like another deer was coming... thenoff the adjacent ridge comes the cows.. (elk) one good bull...that buck moved on...thats happens a good bit here... elk bumping whitetails.. in the evenings on good feeding areas..

Gotta tell ya all something interesting I watched with those bears...the two looked like twin boars.. pretty decent sized..but nothing huge..just nice bears... 200 lbrs.. 250 maybe.. good bears for here...anyway..ones in an apple tree..the other is below..they are feeding on apples.. so then I spot the normal does that feed in the area..they are feeding about 250 yards away...the bears move on after a while...and over a ridge.. as soon as those bear vacate..those does trot across the draw like they know what they are doing and go right to the apples.. They didnt once act like that bear scent bothered them a bit... it was like...they couldnt believe those bears had the nerve to eat their apples... :)

Just checked accueweather.. I got the wind I want tomorrow for the 4x5... I am gonna drive seperate to work (wife and teach together) so I can get home early and get out there to hunt him...Talk to you all tomorrow..!

peace out...

Guys I think I am gonna love this ASAT Ground Blind. I played around with it in the basement some last night, cause it was raining outside. I have a couple of spots where tree stands just won't work. This thing will be just the ticket. Gonna be cool being on eye level with these deer.

A few years a go I shot a doe out of one, but haven't really hunted out of them too much. This one is much nicer that my old one, and much bigger.

Keep after them Troy, you will be in the right spot one of these days. That is if those tasty old elk will leave you alone.:D

John I worked hard to find a Job to get time off in the fall, LOL

I have been where you are it sucks, I turned down a Job for way more money last month. Told the guy wanted me to work to much in Oct Nov.

Vacation:
Here is what i took off this year.

Nov5th through 14th. 15th is MI gun opener, 7th, 8th, and 9th are the best days around here. I have killed 5 +100'' bucks between Oct 28th and 31st. It seems I catch the first Doe in heat by my stand.

I WILL get my time in, just might be a little limited at the beginning of the season.

I am taking off opening day in IL too, Oct.1. Gotta try for one of those I got pics of before the locals run em out of the woods.

John,

Sorry to hear your gonna be a little bit tight on time with the upcoming opener, but like you said, I am sure you'll get your time in the woods! Man best of luck it sounds like your getting all your gear and final preperations lined out.

I'm sitting here in my office on lunch break (tator soup and chicken sandwhich) thinking about tonights hunt. This will be the second time I hunt the 4x5 stand and were he came down through on Sunday. I hope he shows this evening. I am gonna race home (45 minutes from work) and then jump in the shower..thenin the dodge and head to his spot..another 45 minutes....bout a 1/2 mile hike in.. He uses a the top of a big ridge and the hike is straight up about 300 yardsto get in from the right directon. Day 8 of the whitetail season..

Talk to you guys this evening...when I get home..bout 10 pm my time.. Actually I hope its more like Midnight.. ;)

Jeff, Good Luck bud! So whats your game plan? You after you're buck you have on camera or you shooting first good buck that comes by? Just curious.. How many buck tags do you get.. I have 2 Idaho tags this year, I spent the extra and bought an additional non res tag..

GMMAT 09-07-2007 09:34 AM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Game plan:

Lay down EVERY nanny that is either out of spots.....or doesn't have one in spots in tow.

That's it.

I have my eyes on 2 bucks that I saw on game cam. I'm hoping there are other "targets".....but they'll be secondary to the job I know I have to do (herd reduction). Season game plan is to work on herd reduction until I get to a certain point (hopefully by 11/8).....and then hunt the way I want to hunt from that point, forward.

I know where I'll be in the morning. I have as good a chance as I've ever had in that spot (it's the tree I took my '06 8-pointer from....and where I took some scouting photos back in June). I'll be within 150yds of my honey hole, tomorrow afternoon......and that's where I spotted the buck I'm after on day 3 of last season (when I blew the opportunity).

I'm looking forward to having a little time with the man upstairs......enjoying the scenery....and possibly having a shooting opportunity. I've also asked my wife out on a date, tomorrow night. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to the whole day/night. She'll be taking me down the road to my entry point tomorrow morning at 4:30AM......and she's already e-mailed me today.....saying she'd like to help me track if I'm successful, tomorrow.

My heart is full, guys.;)

I'm taking this evening to hang with the Family as well. I'll be back at it in the A.M. We've got our new deck addition about finished along with thepole barn to wrap in metal then I'll be able to chill on the house projects for the fall. :)

Gary, I can't imagine, August 30th never comes soon enough for me... like I said the other day, I am looking forward to when everyone on the chaos team is out getting after it..

Mr. P - best luck this weekend buddy. Don't burn yourself out (as if that's even possible...haha). So whatya think - is it gonna be Penn State or ND tomorrow? Take an evening off and watch the game (or Tivo it) - the atmosphere at the Beav will beOFF THE HOOKbro. I tried trading myleft kidney and my stem cells for tickets... No takers. LMAO. I'll be glued to the big screen with a steaming pizza, a cold Blue Moon, and #33jersey in effect. A big win could vault the Lions into the top 10 - and a big loss could be...well...a total disaster.

Bizarre news: Big EHD outbreak near one of my hunting areas. Supposedly it'sspread by biting midges -pretty widespread - really hammering localized deer herds. Started out as a report of 50 dead. Now they're saying thousands. I'm still seeing deer everytime I scout - and finding no dead ones... So I'm thinking it's just hysteria among the masses... At least that's what I'm hoping... Either way - bring on the cold weather!

Jeff - good luck man. Maybe you'll surprise yourself and see a good buck. Either way, it's time out of the henhouse and in the woods.

Germ - they had some nice shirts for sale on ebay... Just thought you might be interested.

Quick,
I don’t understand all the PSU/ND hype. ND got hammered last game and I wouldn’t expect a win over them to vault you as high as you’d like. So it’s now a no win for you guys. Win & you were supposed too cause they aren’t any good. Lose and you are Michigan.

I was wondering if that EHD hit your areas?

Fran, oh man, I am not even warmed up yet. Early season is always tricky. I've only hunted my big buck 1 time so far yet it still may take me all season to get a shot..hes lives in a BEACH of a location, steep, swirling nasty winds..have kept me out..I am playing it safe right now, I just dont want to blow him out of there forcing something early... I will get after him now that my brother is gone though and I am watching the winds very carefully... I pretty much set all my hunting aside while he was here and hunted secondary locations and put my bro in the best. He had elk or deer under his stand every hunt. He just didnt see the bull or buck he wanted to shoot this early.

OK ND...may have a hard time beating the IDAHO VANDALS this season..nuff said! LOL and I love the IRISH! :Dtake the good years with the bad, I hope Penn St. does great for ole JOE PA's sake.. I think the Lions are gonna hand it too ND ...rookie QB..makes it tough..

I have a family of 14 (twelve children) that we donate any extra venison to. We gave them 2 last year.....and Lisa and I didn't exchange Christmas gifts.....opting, instead, to donate to this family. I've never met them....and they don't know our names (we do this through a co-worker....who is scoutmaster to a few of their kids). yep. We have a good home for any and all does.;)

Mitch won't be with me, tomorrow, sadly. He is going to get his learner's permit, today.....and he wants to be with his biological father tomorrow....driving and such. I'm happy for both of them....and ALWAYS encourage their time together. He and I will get to hunt, plenty.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Lisa and I always enjoy our time together. God hasblessed us....and we know it.

Thanks, Quick (and others).....I'm really looking forward to tomorrow.

Hey Jeff,

Thats a really nice thing you do for those folks.. Good stuff. We dont have enough does in this country to need to thin them. Wolves, mountain lions and yotes.. take care of them. I see more cow elk this time of the year than I do does and we will fill our freezer with elk almost predominately year in and year out. I dont see a lot of deer per hunt but when I do its usually one I have seen before, I usually see a buck and rarely a doe in early season. Theshelassimply dont hang out in the same areas this time of the season. Bucks hold to the higher elevations and tougher ground for the most part until the rut hits. Then they drop down.

Glad to hear you'll be hunting with your boy, I think I will trytaking Jess out on a couple archery elk hunts here this month, he can hike with me and call with me. I'm not ready to strap him in a treestand for whitetails yet..maybe next year..
