Germ,

Where did you shoot her? Lung with no pass through?

Germ 10-02-2007 02:21 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Well LB it was kind off bizarre, all I can tell you is I spent my lunch hour sharping my Montecs.

Iaimed her above the 10ring on a 3d target at 11:00 if the deer is facing left. I mouth bleated at her(I never do, and will never do again), I caught the the shoulder blade and a BH blades snapped in half as it hitit, This sent the arrow staight down, look at her bottom that is the exit hole. My arrow snapped in half also.

It was weird[&:] She did go down like a quick. Do you guys want to see the BH?

LebeauHunter 10-02-2007 02:31 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Sure, let's see the bh - thought Montecs were near indestructible. BTW, thought you were shooting Strikers.

So you hit just a little high and in with a glancing shot off the scapula? That's typically where I aim for
rifle and it drops em in their tracks.

After all this practice and prep and reading about you guys, I'm getting real antsy for some action.

Germ 10-02-2007 02:51 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

It was the Striker that broke, why I am sharping Montecs;)

shed33 10-02-2007 04:27 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

I had a striker break too, on my target! .. bout like the wac ems I was shooting last year.. someday I will learn..

Get a buck guys..I cant hunt till OCT 10...all closed down here.

Troy, Why do they close your season? Is it gun season now or what?

I am gonna try and get out after work tomorrow. It is supposed to storm here tonight and cool off tomorrow. I would have liked to have been out tonight but didn't have the time.

Germ 10-02-2007 06:30 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Ok here it is, I do not want any bashing. I called G5 today I am send them the head.

LebeauHunter 10-02-2007 10:01 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Gary,

Not gonna bash the head I'm using. [&:] Not changing now! The blades are 0.03", which is
supposed to be pretty thick. Let us know what G5 says. Sounds like at least they have
good customer service and marketing department.

John,

I couldn't see your trail cam pics earlier, that's a nice one - is that last pic his antler?

Troy,

Why end on 10/10?

Updated game plan for Sat. morning, going to be some squirrel hunters (opening day) coming
from the perimeter of woods on back and side. They won't start till sunup when I'm already
in the tree. I'm going to set up on a trail crossing a ditch way in the back (hopefully an
escape route). (This is about 200 yards from a prime spot I'm saving and talked about in
that earlier post). I don't like the squirrel hunting, but I think I can use it to my advantage.
I think this actually gives me a higher than normal chance of a nice buck sighting. Biggest buck
ever seen on my property was kicked up by a stray dog.
Sat. afternoon will hunt away from squirrel hunting across a canal from a known bedding area.
Sun. shouldn't be any squirrel hunting, so that won't be a factor. Sound like a plan?
Trying to make lemonade here guys - was bummed to hear about squirrel hunting. Would rather
hunt a non-pressured, unwary deer.

Germ 10-03-2007 05:04 AM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

After talking to John on the phone I have decided to save my second doe tag for the late season. Now until Nov 15th I am buck hunting only;)

Good point John

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Hey guys/gal, good luck this week, Will thanks for the update and John and Gary, you guys seem like your right on them!

I talked to a biologist about this a few years back. They shut down our season, for 9 days to let the elk finish up the majority of their breeding unpressured.

Anyweapons season opens for two full months now. Elk, deer, bear, turkey you name it.. CHAOS.. in many areas, and a ton of pressure in the mountainsas gun hunting elk is very big out here.

I can choose any weapon I want to hunt with now until Dec 1

last season I hunted the entire gun season for whitetails with my bow. This season I will most of the time but will take my sons now on a few rifle sits and I am really looking forward to that. Elk I really need to fill the freezer, I will shoot any elk I can with rifle or bow once my seasons open back up for elk. As a matter of fact I may go drop the money for a non res/B-tag to give me more hunting time on elk. We have NO meat in the freezer cept for a bear..

So, I have two whitetail tags for Idaho to fill and 1 elk, possibly one more and my wife is getting elk and deer tags this year too. She wants to do some rifle hunting right around the home. I am stoked about that.

I got out yesterday and checked up on some areas I really need to get to whitetail hunting. I liked what I saw in there for sign.

Come Oct 10th I will have 4 forsure different elk/whitetail areas to hunt all of which are miles apart. I am trying to lesson the pressure I am putting on the two I am hitting now.

Dec 10th-23 are is late season archery again and then I go to ND over Xmas break.

good luck guys..

I am really enjoying your updates and posts in the forums fellas.. some very good reading and strategy talk in there..

Arrow, good luck, whats your plans for this season. You holding out while its early for a certain caliber of buck?

Troy I talk to G5 today, they are giving me some Montecs. We had a nice talk. I told them I think the way the BH is put together is the issue. I sent them the pictures and allthe heads back(6).

? Did you have some of the blades that felt loose when together?

LebeauHunter 10-03-2007 12:55 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Germ,

My blades are snug and it looks/feels solid.

If there is some kind of defect let me know. But it's too late to change now and that's the last thing
I will be thinking about on release b/c I plan on hitting vitals. [8D]

BTW, don't think I missed your unnecessary crack on my noble profession. Get back to routing servers.:D

Gary good work with g-5 ... I need to be more assertive when it comes to products that dont preform. I usually just eat the cost and move onto something else..

I had to really bear down on a couple with the broadhead wrench to tighten them. I used at least two washers on each. One washer wouldn't hold into my ACC's. I noticed mine target broadhead came loose after about 5 shots. I'd retighten.. I am tempted to go back to my old 2 blade coc design. Those always flew great..

Well there is this thing called "death" that some people plan for. [&:] My clients (generally construction and
oil and gas) seem to be happy with my results, but they sometimes have your attitude and things get so
wadded up it is a lot harder to make things right. A little preventative work can sometimes go a long way.

I took a class on Turbo Pascal way back in the day and decided that I couldn't do that computer crap. :D

Why the hell would I waste my IOU's on that? You guys would probably hire Les Miles - can't be having that.
He's finally grown on us down here. :D

Germ 10-03-2007 02:10 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

BTW

He will be coaching MI next year:D I am in the know;)

LebeauHunter 10-03-2007 02:23 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Well, he's Mr. Michigan and probably had dreams of coaching there as a boy, so that isn't that surprising.
But when he wins that NC this year, it will be tough to walk away from his treatment as a god down
here (although Little Nicky did it). :D

Miles wasn't that impressive at first, but he's likable, competent, knows how to delegate, hires good people
(I hope he leaves our OC and DC), and is a good recruiter.

Well I snuck out behind the house for a while tonight. The only thing I saw was a coyote. He was cruising thru looking for supper. He sure stirred the squirels up. I knew something was coming they went berzerk when they saw him.

He passed by at 25 yards but I couldn't get him to stop, and it is really thick in this area. No shot.

Germ 10-03-2007 09:53 PM

Glad you got out John

I am go after Massey 8 on Sunday morning hunt. If the wind is out of the south I will be in the bedding area again. This time with lunch:D

Well I had to revamp my setup after the doe ordeal.

Shooting my Terminator Hunter Selects with feathers

450+ Grain arrow, I have 125 Montecs are back in business. I sent all 6 strikers back today. Will let you know what happens.
If by chance a doe comes by, I have a 3 blade rage in the quiver;)

Not much hunting done here guys. It's been back up to 90 during the day and upper 60s overnight. Supposed to start to cool of next Tuesday. In the mean time I've been scouting some new locations and bought some rubber boots due to my real life hunting lesson taught to me by the doe that spooked when she got to my scent trail.[:@]

Hey huntm up, what have you been up to lately? I know you've been traveling lately. But if you check in, let us know what you've been doing or seeing. Maybe pm a phone# so we can check in with you once in a while if you are away from the puter. Maybe you can be the one to put us on the board.

I sure hope somebody breaks the ice pretty soon. We need to get some bone on the ground. I am thinking huntinlady might be the first to down a buck on this team. She has been a pretty good guide for the youngsters she has taken out.

I will be back in the tree Saturday evening and all day Sunday.

Who is hunting this weekend, Troy we know you are not. Guys who have not checked in please do. I want to hear from you!!

Guys who have not checked in please do. I want to hear from you!!
You talkin to me. :D
Will be in stand all weekend. May even miss part of the LSU-Florida game (especially if we kill). [&:]

I'm a little bummed about the heat - 3 or 4 days ago the forecast was a low of 55 Sun. night and
high of 81 on Sunday, now it is low of 69 and high of 91. But like I was telling John, the more
I think about it the more I'm liking the squirrel hunters, especially since they won't move in this heat.
The stand I am hunting on has never been hunted and is a ditch crossing that I think is a great
escape route.

You guys get a look at that 215" Louisiana monster? http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.a...44&mpage=1
I'll be hunting his twin brother this weekend. ;)

We put up about 5 new (unhunted) stands in good locations and have a couple new climber locations.
If deer movement is slow and it is hot as hell, would you guys hold off on hunting some of those
stand locations? I'll be going back in 2 weeks and it should be cooler/more deer activity then.

I've got a cypress slough I haven't hunted either - unsure on trying that as well.

I was out this morning and only had 2 fawns come by. I will be back out tonight and the entire weekend. So far Ive seen 9 deer since Oct 1st. I only had one shot on a small 6 pointer. I passed on that shot.

Probly wont hunt Saturday, I got a wedding to go to at 11:00 and then reception. That is if we end up going. Depends on how my wife is feeling.

But Sunday I hope to make it over to IL. May hunt the morning and check my camera and come home. Suposed to be 90* again. Might depend on what I see. I may stay the whole day.
