Man, no one is disappointed! I'm all pumped up for this weekend.

I still can't believe in looking at the pictures that thing is less than 150". Maybe you are more honest
than other scorers. [8D]

Too bad there aren't any points for style! It's a lot prettier than our swamp thing bucks.

Germ, this is for you:

Allright, I've got to get back to work.
Hes one of those bucks that doesnt score exceptional.. but looks great if that makes any sense.. some bucks are just built to score.. he isnt one of them.. like I said in my original post in the forums.. I could care less what he scored last night still don't... it was hunting him and all the ups and downs thats made getting him.. very rewarding personally..

I never scored a touchdown or hit a home run that ever felt like drilling a big old buck I know on a level like I knew this guy

I am actually really stoked that hes 5.5 and weighed well over 200 lbs.. I didnt have time to weigh him though... grrrrr but hes the first buck in YEARS that I HAD to gut to drag him up the mountain.. Boy was he fat too.. I think he weighed 220 live weight give or take a few..he's really long bodied..deep chested ..

Yup Jim...A 140 inch deer measured correctly is a pretty good buck in my parts...

I personally think like Will said...some my not be honest....and quite frankly the scoring system itself is often misunderstood

Troy I thought deer around you had bigger bodies, he looks to be long legged beast.

For refernce

last years
215 dressed
1997 buck 235 dressed

MI is the 3rd fattest state in the Union:D

Add that to the fact that the scoring system is as screwed up as a football bat. ;)

That is a good/great buck anywhere. You keep saying you don't have big bucks where you are, but you just keep proving yourself wrong.

Gary, I hear you ... You guys in Mich do have some big bodied beasts.. I've been looking a few other Mich bucks the past 10 years and like yours.. BIG BODIES...

I would say Idaho produces better than ave sized bucks but nothing like the mid west states.. We tend to fall a bit on mass and body size..

A big buck here will go 250 on the hoof.. Mountain bucks that is..

The ag bucks in some areas push 300 live weight..but honeslty I can count the ones I have seen on one hand..

Most bucks here gotta be 3.5 or older to even make 200..live weight from the data I have kept ..

I denfinately think on the whole Mich big bucks versus our same aged bucks..you guys have bigger bodies..forsure..

Stretch was really long.. big deep chest too.. I am confident he was right around 220 maybe 230 LW.. good buck for here..

Well I am headed out right now, LOL

If I see a stretch Caliber buck I am flinging an arrow at it.

hahaha...true.. true..I hope I keep proving myself wrong but I will say this.. I really need to work harder and spend more time looking if I want to find a true giant.. I consider my 03 a BIG buck anywhere .... time to start back to work I guess.. I am actually really excited to hunt the rest of the season now.. honestly I feel a little pressure I have put on myself...gone now.. feels good..

Yeah, but we get an extra week this year. YIPPPY I get home around 4:00. So not much time here after cleaning up and getting dressed. Sometimes I pop in my stand right out the back door, if no deer are in my food plot. Or I have a couple within 5 minutes walk.

Congrats on your buck Jeff. I haven't read your story yet, but it must have been a mercy killing from what I gather.

You got one with antlers!!

I only saw does and fawnstoday in IL,4 does and 3 fawns in the morning. And 0 deer in the evening.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

I also took another doe out of the herd, this evening. I hadn't even had time to get settled and put my facemask on.....when I heard a familiar sound RIGHT UNDER ME. I looked straight down to see a BB. I watched him sniff around where I had placed my stand and gear.....and he then mosey'd on to my left a little. I had thought I heard another deer to my left....but I wasn't gonna look down without my facemask on. When I finally thought I had the chance to look....there was a doe under the canopy of a sapling. I found an opportunity to stand....and they both walked straight away. I pegged her at 20yds....and came to full draw. She turned to her right.....and was broadside when I released. The hit was a little back.....and I watched her bound away with a huge hole in her side. It was 4:30.

6:00, Lisa nd I go back over to get on the blood trail. It was sparse. We walked down to where i thought she'd gone....and I went into the thicket a bit to see if I could see her in the fading light. I'd made a mistake. I jumped her up. She only went about 20 yds and kinda fell over against a tree. I quietly backed out. Lisa and I went out to eat....I called Rob.....and we decided I'd go back in after 10:00. I left the house at 10:00 and walked right up on her. She's already on ice.

I'm exhausted. I'm gonna go lay down beside my honey....as soon as I unwind a bit.

I'm not hunting again until PA....but I'm all of your biggest cheerleader. I'll hunt here, again, on 11/3.....and then not again until Rob/PA's her on 11/16.

Good luck to all.

Hey Shed.. Just wanted to let you know the cash is in the mail per our agreement. You shave 20 inches off your deer and I send you a benjamin.
He sure looks better than his score but I would sell my left one to poke a beast like that!!! ATTA BOY!!

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Hey Gary, you want me to ship you some acorns up there in MI. We have LOTS of trees in IL that look like this. The deer don't have to leave the woods around here to get their bellies full. And they don't have to move very much either. Which I believe is part of the problem right now. The woods is full of acorns, and all the deer do is get out of bed and start eating them. Not much movement. Gotta get close to them to see them.

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

I've had a productive day so far. No deer, but I just doubled the amount of land I can hunt ! Talked with the guys that have been leasing the 50 acres across from me (used to lease our side too ) for the last eight years and they said to hunt it anytime I like. They only hunt m/l and modern gun. They say there are some real good sized ones in there. The property buts up to a "fox farm " where they run hunting dogs all the time and it has a ten foot fence that they say the deer just follow right along. I've been dieing to get in there. I was over there a couple of time when we were deciding which property to buy but haven't been over there since. Saving it in case I ever got the chance to hunt it;)

My plan is to get in there in the next couple of days, since it's stirred up now from m/l weekend, to do some scouting so it will settle down in a few weeks when off to hunt for a week.

Germ 10-21-2007 06:42 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

John I have a place you can stick those acorns[:-]

Well Mr. Mass came through at 6:40AM this morning. About30 mins before legal shooting. Just how I drew it up, but he came through early.

I stayed in the stand the entire day. I had flock turky's come through around 1:00pm. This evening I had 5 shela's right underneath me most of the night. No bucks.

jmbuckhunter 10-21-2007 06:51 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

Rob, having more hunting land is always a good thing. Way to go.

Gary, I had the same problem last week. What I think was a good buck came thru before shooting light. They did just what they are supposed to do to survive. Be back in their beds before daylight. Those big old bucks are some smart critters.

As for the acorns, they won't grow very well without sunlight.:D:D:DYou sure you don't want me UPS some up there for ya? WE GOT LOTS!!

Germ 10-21-2007 07:01 PM

RE: 43- Official Team Chaos Thread

John I have a great pictue of 1 acorn, LOL It was lodge in a nuk of a tree.

Send lots!!!!

Rob, good luck hunting that new ground, cant beat that!

So guys I see Jeff is taking a little break until PA..we got rained on here all day on and off and I decided to work around the house, play some football with my boys and went and visited my mother instead of hunting today. I am gonna take my buck over to my taxidermist tomorrow if I can get a hold of him. Hes bout 3 hours away. Taking my spring bear too. Hope its ok, its been in the freezer a long time. I am giving the hide for a rug to my aunt. I am gonna keept he skull.

I will definately be back hunting Tuesday...elk and abuck tag left to fill here in Idaho. I might do some grouse hunting too. I love eating those little buggars and we have a lot of them around. I'll get my buck cut up this week. We are going to jerky and sausage most of him. DIY that stuff. Probably gonna smoke alot of it.

Good luck this week guys. The deer here are really starting to move around with this cold weather..

Troy

obtw..i have never seen an acorn in real life..:(someday I will get to hunt the famed mid-west!
