That is an awesome buck there Mike. Sorry to hear about your camera though. Mathews can do that.

Good luck to everyone getting out. Even though I can't score anything for the team I am going to be hitting it pretty hard over the next 3 weeks. Since we have unlimited tags [:'(]I can at least TRY to find a nice one. Biggest problem is some of the neighbors shoot all the small ones every year. Last year they shot like 7 or 8 smaller bucks. I just know that with all the does in the area there are going to be some nice bucks around come here the next few weeks.

I can't wait to get back out tomorrow. I had a shi**y hunt last night. I took a nasty spill on the way in. The leg of my Summit really dug into the back of my calf and my binoculars hit me in the nose hard enough to where I thought it was broke, my nose that is. All this was on the way out. My calf looks nasty today, major bruising and pretty good knot. I'll live though. Didn't see a damn thing either last night. The winds look favorable for my spots this weekend though so hopefully I can smoke a buck. I'm really hoping to get my wife an opportunity on a deer though, which I think is going to come on Saturday evening. Tons of does in the area we are going to hunt, just tough to get them to comein close enough. I'll definitely keep everyone posted if I can score some points for our team. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about the fall Mike. Isn't it kind of funny though. I used to think there was NO WAY I would fall and get hurt. That day 2 years ago when all I was doing was walking down a hill after a morning hunt and bam I was on the ground. I was so sure my bow limbs broke with the snapping sound I hear. I sounded like a fiberglass rod being snapped. Well that was the ankle in 3 spots. Please be careful and know that it can happen to everyone. I am glad to hear that you were not hurt any worse then you are. You can still get back out there and that is what is important. Get the little lady of yours a deer on Saturday and you will forget all about the nose and calf.

Thanks for the encouragement! Even though I was in the middle of the woods, the first thing I did was look around to see if anyone had seen my graceful tumble! I was the same as you though in thinking that I would never fall. Its a bit humbling actually. But, I'll live. I'm hittin' the outdoors after a 1/2 day of work today and then looks like Sat and Sun will be spent outside as well. I can't wait! I have a good feeling about this weekend with all of the sign that has been popping up. I'm anxious to try out the decoy also. I'll let you guys know what goes on! Good luck!

My son tried the decoy thing a couple of years ago but he did not have any luck with it. To be fair he really didn't know what he was doing and only used it 2 nights. I think it would work better in the mornings myself. I got my Cuddeback back from them yesterday. Gonna put that out tomorrow and then check it on Monday before I leave the cabin to see if it worked. It did work last night at home so I am hopeful. I will give it a couple of weeks and then report back. Good to hear someone else has a good feeling about this weekend. I am so pumped up. Last year the end of Oct and early Nov we had lots of rain and it was really not a good rut. Two years ago is when I was out with that leg. So this is the first time in 3 years I will get to hunt a decent rut. I have learned so much about archery on this site and archerytalk over the last 3 years too. I am shooting better then I ever have. Just can't wait to get out there tonight. Good luck all.

As I stated earlier, I had a good feeling about this weekend, and so far that is holding true. I had an encounter last night with the biggest buck I have seen in my hunting career. My friend Ross and I were hunting in the same place where Brian shot the big one I posted eaelier this week. The wind was gusting to nearly 30 mph and we had been out there for about 3 hours and were just about sick of it. My phone was vibrating and I knew it would be Ross, so I answered. He was calling to tell me he was going to hit the road, and mid sentence he says "Oh my god, look in the waterway to the southeast of you. Well, 100 yards out is giant buck coming down this waterway. I at first thought, wow, look at him, but since he was so far away, I didn't think there was any way possible he was going to come close enough. Well, he kept on coming. So now I'm getting really nervous real quick. He was behind me, so I had to do some quick adjusting, like unscrewing my EZ hanger and fiddling with my safety strap so I could have it out of the way. By this time he is at 60 yards and he hadn't gotten any smaller either. He continues on his way, coming right to me, and at about 45 yards he stops dead in his tracks, as he is now directly downwind of me. He threw his head back and was really sniffing hard. I quick sprayed some Devastator 249 into the air to try and intercept whatever he was smelling, and this made him do a lip curl and really snif hard. Well, he didn't like what he smelled after the 249 dissapated, and he trotted away to about 75 yards. He is a 9 point, huge typical 9 point frame, with the right G-2 forked about 5" deep. I would venture a guess as to say he is in the 155-160" class. He wasn't too spooked so I think we will see him again, either way, I was really happy to see him, and that buck definitely had me rattled! Great nigt in the woods, too bad today has a damn wind advisory. I may try to brave the elements this afternoon though. Good luck guys, hopefully one of us can score for the team!

Pretty quiet weekend for me, other than Friday night. Saturday I never went out as the wind was gusting over 30 mph and I didn't feel like taking Dramamine before heading out. Sunday dawned clear and crisp for my wife and I, with yotes howling everywhere. She had an opportunity on a deer, 10 yards, broadside, but then he bent downb and scratched his ear, and she saw clearly that he was a button buck, and decided to let him walk. That was the only deer we saw on the morning hunt. In the afternoon, she saw one doe, but never was presented with a shot. It may just have been too damn nice on Sunday. This coming weekend looks real good, so hopefully we can make something happen. I really want to smack a big buck before going home for gun season. Anywho, good luck gents!

Mike sorry to hear he didn't come in. Sounds like a monster. Phall good luck to you too getting something in range.

I was out Friday night thru Monday morning. I am seeing a LOT of small bucks but only one that I would have shot. Actaully took the shot with about 3 minutes of shooting light left and hit a twig. I swear it was a clear shot. I also shot a yote but for some reason there was no blood. Hit him right in the shoulder and he even tore off some of my fletching as he ran away. I was sure I would find him but I looked for 3 hours the next day and never did. My girlfriends son saw 17 deer yesterday morning and 2 were "huge". Things are really heating up so this weekend should be great. Hell right now would be great and I am stuck here at work.[:@]

Yes he was a monster!!!! Otherwise the weekend was pretty slow. My wife had an opportunity on a button buck but elected to pass. Hopefully this weekend we can get her one. I wish I was out now too, but stupid work! Good luck!
