About 2 years ago some people came in my hunting spot and harvested a lot of big trees. Then about 2-3 weeks ago it was burned for the first time, which burned all the fallen timber, and the infested excessive amount of weeds that grew. Now since it has been 2-3 weeks since the burn, the green is just barely starting to come up from weeds. So i'm going to spray all of it with round-up.
Should I spray round-up once or twice? How long should I wait after I spray the round-up to plant my plot? Thanks in advance.

i'd let the weeds get a little taller before you spray them. read the r.u. label. it generally recommends the weeds be 6-12" tall when you spray.
you can spray it once, wait 3 weeks and spray again to kill any weeds you missed, then broadcast. you can also broadcast your seed into the weeds and then spray them. r.u. probably won't hurt the seeds.
whatever you do, don't spray the weeds and then disk up the area.

if it's like a field that i worked over before, this is what i did. there were lots of saplings and vines in the area. i bush hogged it. then i went over it with a box blade. i used the shanks to break up the soil and pull out LOTS of roots and stumps. by LOTS i mean that i would have coffin sized hunks of root matter that would accumulate in front of the shanks of the boxblade. it broke up the soil fairly well too.

Round-up is supposed to not have any residual effect, so in theory, you could plant immediately after you spray. I'm of the opinion that it does have short residual effect, so I would wait a couple of days.
Also, I never spray the same chemical twice in the same season. This can lead to plants developing resistance. In areas I spray, I rotate about three chemicals, using a different one each year.

my "ag-mentor" has told me about similar problems he is beginning to have w/ his RR soybeans in fields w/ RR crop residue (i.e. RR-resistent weeds).
what herbicides do you recommend rotating?
