Oats

Where do you live? If it is really cold there the oats may freeze out. Planted spike oats for the first time last fall on our place in Garvin County, OK. They did really well and the deer loved them-ate them off right at the ground. Now that the grass is all green, the deer are eating other stuff and the oats are growing like mad. My oats did so much better than the wheat.

I've tried a few Oat plots and the most attractive Oats I've found are Plot Spike Forage Oats. They feature explosive growth and attract deer throughout the hunting season.
Here's one of our Forage Oat plots from last fall that did well.

Here's another Forage Oats plot on 9/22, it was planted 9/02. It features explosive growth and does extremely well in about any soil

Here's the same plot in December, notice how the deer are pawing under 12" of snow to get to the Oats!

The Forage Oats that I planted are supposed to be good until the temps hold under 20 degrees and this seemed to hold true. They were the last green to die and did so after the deer season had closed. They were hardier than I would have thought!
