Where do you live? If it is really cold there the oats may freeze out. Planted spike oats for the first time last fall on our place in Garvin County, OK. They did really well and the deer loved them-ate them off right at the ground. Now that the grass is all green, the deer are eating other stuff and the oats are growing like mad. My oats did so much better than the wheat.
