Anybody ever plant just oats? I have a food plot that is about half an acre and a lil part of it has been planted in cowpeas, the rest of it I am thinking about planting plot spike oats. Do you guys recommend anything to plant with it or just plant the oats. Also is it best to disc the ground up then plant or can I just use like a throw and grow. thanks...

Spike plotoats work just fine by themselves. On several occasions last winter i watched deer leave the feeder and go to the oats patch. It is much betterif youdisc it up before planting the oats. Will plant my spike plot oatspatches this week, weather permitting.

I plant Buck Forage Oats and then overseed with a white clover. The clover gets big enough around Feb for them to get good nutrition after the rut and while the antlers are starting to grow.

We've had some excellent results with Forage Oats. The der love 'em and we even had the digging under 12" of snow to get to them during the late season. I have a plot of Oats blended with Brassicas this season and it's just coming up.
Here are a couple of my Oat plots from last season

Here is a hot of one of our blended Oat/Wheat/Brassica plots from last season as well.

Can you tell me just what are brassicas? Are they turnips or something different? Ive researched it in the past and a turnip is in the brassica family, but id like to know if this is what is in the mix.
When i put mine out, Im going to put on some turnips, radish, spinich, beets too. I dont know if the deer will eat them, but my mother in law loves em! Theyll be a nice addition to the thanksgiving meal.
