What kind off Herbicide can I use for thistles, I have new seedlings planted. ( oaks, pines, ceders ) the trees are now about 12" tall, I have about 60 acres to take care of, Thanks for the help. Steve

I will use a string trimmer, very , very , carefully. Then I've also used a piece of cardboard folded to make a shield and sprayed around seedlings with roundup or 2-4D.One slip with herbicide or trimmer and your tree may die. Just finished trimming around 150 tree - bushes - pine seedlings 6" to 48" tall.

what if you made a shield from a 3 liter bottle and sprayed the weeds with roundup.

Two key questions....what kind of trees and what kind of thistles...
Third question...do you have a Restricted Use Permit?


If deciduous trees, you can apply a fall application of a couple different products that will control biennial thistles (Musk or Bull)

If they are Canada Thistles, you have a chore in front of you but its not all that bad. There are a couple excellent products for Canada thistles, again that can be used around deciduous trees.
