I usually hunt on my own land and I am in the woods year around, and smoke while there, cutting wood, fixing plots, clearing lanes etc. They don't seem bothered by the smoke, but come unglued if they come up on me while I am working. I've had does just step off the trail while I go by on my 4 wheeler.
A few years back, (less than ten) I connected on a 6 point because I was smoking. Watching a trail near a good rub and after being there over an hour I lit up. I turned at the sound of some dogs barking off at a distance. When I turned back, this six point was standing by the rub, watching the smoke curl up from my cigarett. As there was no wind.I froze, cig in hand. After a minute, which to me seemed like an hour,he looked back over his far shoulder to check his back trail. This gave me time to shoulder and aim. I fired just as he turned back. He folded in 20 yards.
