If I am every given the opportunity to shoot a deer out of my backyard then you can bet your bottom dollar that I will throw some lead at his behind.
JMO Get out in the woods and hunt sometime you might actually enjoy it, I do!

I hunt in my backyard about 700 feet from the house in a stand of woods. I guess I'd consider that hunting. It's not like the deer are just sitting there, waiting to be taken. They travel through often but I get maybe a few opportunities each season if I'm lucky. I still have to do all of the things to conceal myself and my movement/scent that I'd have to do if I traveled miles to some public wilderness area that many would consider a TRUE hunting ground. I say its all about location, location, location. Why sit out in some farm field where from experience you know you'll see one deer each year if they've set up major trails through your back yard? This month's Field and Stream has a Super Bucks special section where one guy took a huge buck right behind his house. No one is challenging him on it being considered hunting.
I don''t like getting into debates about shooting versus hunting. If an animal isn't caged in and there's some skill and luck involved (as in this case), I think it could pretty much be considered hunting. After all, he didn't manage to get the buck. Where will the arguement end? If a deer passes by your stand and stops and looks at you and waits a long time to give you a good shot, is that hunting or shooting? I mean, I suppose some people would argue it's not hunting because it's not fair chase - the deer saw you and was not intelligent enough to run, therefore the hunter had an unfair advantage so he/she would just be shooting and not hunting.

Never claimed to be an expert and never will! I was just stating out that she ripped on someone for doing the same sort of thing. That post has been deleted. I also don't agree with what this person was doing.
Please explain to me how this is considered hunting running outside when you see a deer OUT THE WINDOW and then shooting at it?
What does my TV show have anything to do with it?

Maybe you should write a book because it sounds like you might be an expert maybe even get a show on the outdoor channel I would love to learn from the best. JMO

Okay, JMO, BHF, but um... I guess you are skimming my posts or something. As I stated before, this is FAR from a lazy man who just sits on his porch or by his woodburner in his laZboy waiting for some chance buck to walk by. He spends most of his free time in the woods, he has 4 blinds in 40 acres, he bow hunts as well, doesn't just use a gun. Does that give him any credit? I am getting the opinion you just don't respect gun hunters period, whether they take a shot in a marshy swamp at 100 yards or off their porch at 70.
He sits in his stand day in and day out, his wife works all day and into early evening, so as a retired man, he has nothing better do (IS there anything better than hunting??), he spends all day in his stand, and to be honest, IMO, it doesn't pay off as well as it should considering in the 14 years he has lived there between him and his wife, they have only harvested 4 deer. The deer come up into his yard because of his garden and his pumpkin patch. In that case, I'd have a couple of good reasons for shooting at the thing, first of all, it is a LARGE deer, probably 180 anyway, secondly, it has a rack on it like Pamela Anderson (Okay, sorry, I was trying to shed some humor in here), and THIRDLY, it's eating the food I have grown for canning and whatnot... HELL YEAH, shoot the sucker (or in his case, shoot AT the sucker)... it sucks that he didn't get it, it would have been quite the trophy for him since he has been hunting since he was 13 and the largest buck he has gotten is a 5 pointer which was NOT very sizeable. He deserves a buck like that.
Where he lives in Michigan, there are just NOT that many deer of that caliber, the avg. life expectancy of a deer is 1.5 years, so seeing something like that is rare!
I'm not sure what your "thing" is there Fool (not calling you names, you named YOURSELF that one...), but is this where I should bow down and shine your AlphaBurly's?

Yes thats what I strive for. I would consider this hunting because I take the time to scout and put my stands up on trails where deer travel and strive for a GOOD shot! Not over a bait pile or out my bedroom window. Also I would not shoot at a running deer because I know my limitation with the weapon I am hunting with. I don't practice a running shot so I will NOT take one. Thats just me, some people a confident enough to take that shot, even with a Bow. I'm not, sorry. This is my opinion!
Maybe I'm wrong trying to push my values on others maybe I'm not. Its what I believe in and if thats what you believe in so be it! Good luck! Here's a ???? If you harvested a mature deer out your window would you be proud and tell people how it was harvested?

Why in the hell wouldn't I be proud to tell people how I harvested it, it's hanging on my wall, right? Of course I'd be proud to tell people, I don't really see a difference though, I know plenty of people who use old barn lofts as hunting blinds, do you have a problem with that one too?

Yes I would. I wouldn't brag it up like I had outsmarted it. I would show it off proudly and tell the story for years to come about how lucky I had been. Just as if I had walked back to my truck from my stand and saw a deer standing right next to it and taken it. That has happened several times to friends. It was extremely lucky also and they weren't afraid to share their story.
And please don't think I'm attacking anyone personally here. To each his or her own but I should be allowed to state my opinion too. All of us should. Otherwise there'd be nothing to talk about. : )

Ding ding ding...round two.
I have killed a deer that standing about 30 yards from where I parked my truck. Still shooting light, nothing illegal. Just a deer in the wrong place at the wrong time.I got cold and was walking back to the truck. i had already seen a few deer feeding in the cut corn and they went back into the timber....so I left the stand a little early. Paid off for me that day!

Ok Bowhuntingfool - you are saying that if you lived on land where it was legal and safe to shoot deer and were sitting on your porch or looking out your living room window and saw a legal, shootable deer, you WOULDN'T take the opportunity to shoot it? Just curious since "style" seems to be paramount for you.
