rack...long time no talk....
Go get your deer tomorrow come rain, sleet, snow, or shine. If you saw where he crossed the creek then get as many people as you can to start there and do a grid search. If that deer struggled like you say it did, it didn't go far before it piled up again. As tough as deer are, they can only loose so much blood or take so much damage for they just cannot physically go any further.

Don't forget your gun this time. Sounds to me like the deer appeared to be facing you, but might have been slightly quartering to you. I bet you missed to the side and put the round in the guts. A 12ga. slug through the chest is not gonna live that long.

Good Luck! It is really sad when somebody loses a deer, so don't let me down. I think you will find it because a 12 guage slug packs a pretty good whallop. I have seen deer get shot in the guts with one and it did not even come near the spine but it sure dropped the deer. Keep us informed on the happenings!

I agree with nub. It sounds like the deer was quartering to you and you either pulled the shot off or didn't actually have the crosshairs on his chest. The slug probably hit about the last rib and came out his underside area knocking out the white hairs. No deer with a 12 guage slug directly through the chest from the front is going far. He is probably dead by now and he may not have gone far from the last place you had a trail.

You know, my dad had the same predicament this year on a big 8point with his bow. Let me tell you the story. We had a stand up that I sat on Friday of that week. I saw the deer that my dad was going to shoot the next day,but I could not get a good shot on it because it saw me drawing back and it just walked away. I knew not to take the shot if the deer was walking away, because i would probably not get it. it was too late anyway. So I let it walk. We came back to the same spot the next day and I decided to let my dad sit it. He had not sat there ten minutes, and in came the same deer. He could not believe it because it came in the exact way and went to the exact same spot that I had told him. It layed down on the trail and my dad decided it was time to take the shot. He drew his matthews back and he let it rip. I heard the mechanical broadhead open up all the way at my stand(about 100 yds away). I heard the buck go crashing through the woods and it stopped then it took off again once again crashing down. It did this several times until it was out of earshot. I knew right away what had happened. he had hit the deer I saw the day before. I got really excited. He came through a little while later and told me about it. We tracked it for 200 yards and then it got too dark on us. the real problem was that it was lightly drizzling and it was starting to rain.We had to quit tracking for the night and wait until early the next morning. Needless to say, we did not get much sleep that night. We went out early the next moring and tracked it another100yards before finding it wedged between 2 trees. That was amazing considering that we had lost all blood and tracks the night before. We just kept doing zig zags every 20 yards until e found the deer. well, my fingers are really tired, so I am going to quit. Hope you did not get a headache from reading this.lol. Hope it helped.

Rackassasin: I'm feeling for you right now.
I shot a buck in NYS with my 12ga 2 3/4 rem copper slugs while he was looking at me. I found no blood and he ran off like a bat out of hell. I figured that I missed until I walked over thr ridge and my brother-in-law says the deer wnet "ass over tea kettle" just as he was going to shoot. Went about 100 yards and died.
If that deer is not dead then something strange happened with the shot. I hope that you guys can get back in there and do some more poking around.
What ZOne were you in??
