wouldnt the deer basically drown with a shot like that?? the cavity would fill with blood to much pressure on the heart and lungs and he would die...hed basically drown in his own blood....and if it was above the lungs i think the shock would went into the spine and he would dropped like a brick..just my guestimating though...and if you went above and missed everything the livers right there.....a liver hit deer dies quick too....not always instant or anything but not a day later....id like to hear about the find and obtopsy......be neat to hear....i just cant see a slug going through the whole body cavity and the deer not dying.....that blows my mind.......you been looking or what???? if he wasnt pushed since you seen him and staggerd he was slowly dying...hes there somewhere.....go look for him!!!! good luck......id like to hear about this one........

from page 1

We walk up on the buck on his death bed 23 hours after the shot. He was holed up where he decided to give up. We were in shock when the deer struggles to get up...It had to take him 5 seconds to get to his feet he was totally disoriented. He was banging into trees and then he begins to walk away and then picked up pace. I should have ran and jumped on him but i froze because he seemed to be so week and i thought he was done and would fall over
You hit him in the guts. If you had hit that buck between the shoulder blades or at the base of the neck no tracking would have been necessary.

Mauser, Lungs, diagrham and guts would have been hit with the shot depending on the angle of the shot.

From the sounds of it he didn't go back and won't,

I wish i was using those split copper sabots. I will from now on. I bet they do a much better job. I don't think the sluggers tear anything....just fly right through. Those copper ones fold open on impact....would have opened him open real good...I'm done with sluggers.
Don't blame the slug for you missing the shot. You run a slug length wise through a deers body it's dead. The last time I hit a deer like that he about back flip. Shot was from the ground slug ended up by the back leg. The amount of energy released inside the body cavity is huge. When I recovered it hadn't it didn't need to.

You missed it happens, but the deer died of that I'm sure.

Biggest buck of your life....and you haven't kept looking for him?

HE IS DEAD...no doubt. In fact...if things unfolded the way you stated, my bet is he is less than 100yds from where you last jumped him. If you didn't go and find him, thats pathetic. I kept waiting to see your post about how you found him.
