Default TO Early For Snort Wheeze ?

First evening of archery here in PA. Had 8 pointer pass me and my wife about 40 yds from stand heading away. Grunted and stoped him, but he wouldn't come back grunting at him, so I snort wheezed at him and he ran off. Told friend and he said to early for snort wheeze. What do you guys or gals think or have experienced with snort wheeze?

snort wheeze is typically something done during the rut.. but i would say that 8 point was most likely not the king of that particular part of the land.. If i were to bet I would guess thats why he ran off... not because you used the call at the wrong time during the year.. The snort wheeze is a call that says "hey you better get out of here or theres gonna be a fight.." Apparently that buck was in no mood to fight..

Snort wheeze will only work on a dominate buck or a buck that is showing aggressivness. I would say for sure too early at least herein Minnesota.
