I would shoot it and on the same note, take very, verygood care of it. Something to pass down to someone in the fam down the road.
Best thing you could do would be to put down a wallhanger for your pops with it.

I love carrying my .30-30 lever. If it wasn't for the limited range I would carry it all the time right now I just use it as a brush and timber gun tho.

I have used a 30-30 since I was 13 and I love it still. I have killed more deer than I can remember with it. I'm not sure where you are from but just take a look and try to remember how far you have shot all of your deer. Most of my deer haqve been 75yds to danger close and that 30-30 dusted every one of them! I just recently bought a 7mm-08 pump (Rem 7600) and I use that for hunting field edges but my hardwoods rifle is ole faithful! Enjoy your new firearm and may it bring you years of hunting success.
