Teddy does this..........what do you do ? http://www.thekampforkids.com/
Is Nugent paying you to defend him here or something? What exactly does this camp do on a nationwide level to promote hunting to kids? This sure looks like nothing more than a local effort up in Michigan. They clearly state that they are a non-profit association that survive solely on donations from the public and businesses, so other than maybe help set it up, where is Nugent spending his own money to take kids hunting here? I also love the fact that Nugent idolizes and quotes Fred Bear all the time. In reality Nugent couldn't carry Bear's jockstrap in hunting skills or just about anything else.
Other than whine about him you do nothing for the goodwill of hunting or the public opinion of same.

So, you're going to dis him because Kamp for Kids is a local effort in Michigan rather than nationwide? It's a non-profit, but, that doesn't mean that Nugent isn't one of the donors. Chuck Norris has a non-profit that teaches martial arts in Texas middle schools. He funnels his earnings from Total Gym and from World Combat League into that organization.

And, I'm curious, how many times did you hunt with Fred Bear? Nugent's first time was when he was like 9 years old...

Ted brings hundreds of kids to his place, on his time, at his expense to teach them about the outdoors, hunting and conservation every year.
He profits off his camp. or at leat he did by charging storage fees etc.

What do I do? Take my kid and other kids hunting. I'm recovering from major back surgery still wearing a clam shell brace and took my neighbors kid out for the youth Turkey hunt last weekend.

My state Reps no be by name and recognize me when I see them.

I also volunteer over 700 hrs a year to a Youth org.

No, I'm not dissing him for it, I am only saying that it is a far cry from being something that is benefiting hunting on a national level which is what SKB2706 is somehow trying to make us believe with his articulate one sentence statements.

No, I certainly never hunted with Fred Bear, although I have read a good many things about him. If at least some of the things I have read about Bear are true, then it would be a crime to mention him and Nugent in the same sentence in my opinion. If he somehow had the opportunity to hunt with Bear, it surely doesn't mean Nugent is of the same stature other than maybe in his own mind.

Ted isn't the only person that helps kids with hunting. I am sure, actually I am positive that some of the members on this very site donate time to JOAD and other youth archery programs. I myself help with a youth archery program in the winter, and I don't get payed a thing either. Heck some guys on here teach hunters education as well.

I have also written letters and made phone calls to my state rep as I'm sure others on here have.

Not all of us sit around and do nothing but whine about Ted. If we don't care for the guy we don't care for him, why is that so hard for you to accept? I've met him and know others that know him. In my opinion he's not very stable. Someone asked what we thought and we said it. I could lie if it would make you feel better.

Nugent also appears regularly on talk radio programs nationwide and on nationally syndicated stuff like the Larry King Show and Politically Incorrect, probably speaking more on RKBA and in his capacity as a member of the board of directors of NRA than specifically about hunting.

I don't think even the rather egomaniacal Nugent thinks he's anywhere near the same stature as Fred Bear. Based on what I've read, Nugent hunted with Bear a number of times, considered him a mentor, and greatly admired what Bear did for hunting in general, and bowhunting in particular. I don't see why someone would consider it somehow disgraceful for Nugent to quote things that Bear said.

Your link did not answer even one of my questions - it certainley did not show anything resembling ted supporting the place with personal money as you alluded - nor did it show "100's of kids" or the time frame in which these "100's" where helped.

Care to try again?
Or are you going to continue to support your worship of ted with soundbites with no proof to support them?

The link offers proof enough for me.....beyond that I really don't care. I don't worship anyone. I do recognize a unsubstaniated rant of a subject that comes from the uninformed. Some people like him and what he does and some people don't for their own reasons. If you read what I wrote I merely stated that he does more for hunting and shooting sports than you do. You have not offered up anything you do for the sport so I will stand by what I said.

I don't offer soundbites ..............

So you can't prove 100's of kids and or teddies actual support.
And I am ranting unsubstantited and uniformed?

Make me informed - offer proof.

Another clue - what I or anyone else has done has zero bearing on whether or not teddie has done what you claim.
It is simply a diversion from one who cannot back their claims when called on it.

If you wander around on tednugent.com, there is some additional info on Kamp for Kids. It's been in operation since 1989 for two weekends each summer. There's a picture of a group from one weekend in 2005 with about 65 kids in it. I think that he's probably had enough kids there on the other 35+ weekends that "100's" would be a pretty safe bet...

Frankly, I think it's a little ridiculous slamming the guy as hard as some here do. You might argue a bit about the manner of his presentation, but, the message is pretty solid.
