How to keep out trespassers?

RE: How to keep out trespassers?
The problem with trespassers, or anyone bent on doing something illegal, is that they only get caught 1 out of a hundred times. See what I mean, there is no lesson learned, so the risk is worth the reward for them. The ends justifies the means if you will.
The only way to legally put a curb on these guys is to give them grief with the law - no let up! They won't quit, they will just be more careful, and you will probably never see them again. The problem with God fearing, law abiding citizens, is they don't think like a criminal, so spending your time spanking criminals seems like a waste of your time. Most guys won't ever put out the effort to stop the problem, so it will continue.
We had a lot of trespassing problems back in Illinois on one of our places. My grandfather refused to prosecute guys that I caught, so why should I spend my time catching them. I finally decided that the best defense against illegal interlopers was to have a presence there more often. I couldn't do the job alone, so I shared my hunting rights with someone who was willing to hunt the days I couldn't, and would also hunt only where I specified.
He was happy as a clam because he had a new premium place to go, and all he had to do to keep it was run off people who didn't have permission. I have been gone from Illinois for almost 14 years, but this guy is still hunting our place, and is loved by my relatives for his low profile and the security he adds.

Uh, call the gamewardern and prosecute them for trespassing. Grandpa may have to appear in court to make the charges stick but if you really want to keep them out I don't know what else you could do. I would have had them locked up when they pulled a gun on me, that's a far more serious charge than trespassing or poaching....I'm just sayin'
