I would take the stand down and put it at the base of the tree. He would definately get the hint and then maybe come talk to you with an excuss about how he didnt know where the line was. Or he would just pack up and leave to tresspass on someone elses land.

I have had this problem a couple of times years ago. Someone put a wooden ladder stand on my property. I removed the stand and this person never came back. I also nailed a posted sign on the tree the stand was on. I think he got the hint. The second time didn't go as smoothly. I knew the person who put a ladder stand on my cousins land which I lease. It is right next to my property. I hid the stand in a thicket. A week later one of my large stands was drug out of a clearing into the middle of a logging road. He didn't realize he did me a favor though. I had already planned on moving that stand. He drug it out with a horse. He then put up a box stand on my leased land. A storm came through and blew the stand down. I swear it wasn't me. He, thinking I did it, retaliated by stealing my gate to the property. That was the last straw. I confronted him nicely as possible and let him know he could not hunt the property. I had one more run in with him later and that was it. His family bought the land that borders my cousins and I get along with them great now. If I had just talked to him in the beginning we could have avoided the whole mess. We respect each others property now. This was about 12 years ago and today we all get along fine. In fact they rarely even hunt their property now. The point I'm getting at is talk to the person nicely as possible and let them know they are not allowed on your property. If they come back then you may have to take action. I have since nicely chased two pair of turkey hunters off my property. They have never come back. I was nice. I can be an ass, but there is a time for that. I have not had a problem with a trespasser in years. Not saying it won't happen again, but if it does I will be civil about it. Only when I need to be an ass will I be one. We have a strict no trespassing law in LA. You no longer need posted signs or paint. It is now taken more seriously. The new law has helped because there is now no way a trespasser can talk his way out of it if you want to prosecute.

I'd leave a polite note and discuss it with him instead of going off half-cocked. The last time i found a stand on my land, it turned out to be a new neighboring landowner who had misjudged the property boundaries. I played it cool and we now get along fine AND I have full access to his surrounding 140 acres of land.

The note was a good start, if there's a further trespass I wouldn'tlet the local sheriff handle it, or the game warden if poaching is suspected, I'd be really cruel and poop on their stand.
